My air conditioner pump (me thinks) makes a chattering noise when I turn on the a/c in my 2000 QX-4. When I change from "Auto" to "Economy" the noise (pump) stops. Please tell me I can fix this myself.

It sounds like the a/c compressor clutch is going bad or gone bad. I would take it to a shop that has a certified a/c technician.
