2009 Rogue air conditioning failed - Repair or get a new vehicle?

I have a 2009 Rogue SL AWD with 150,000 km. The transmission was replaced in 2012. I have had a few issues with the vehicle such as having to completely replace brakes/rotors/calipers, the windshield washer pump, two wheel bearings, and the driveshaft. These repairs have been done in the past two years.

Last week the air conditioning system failed. I haven't gotten it checked out yet, but I have read that the cost can be pretty high, depending on the problem.

For those of you with older Rogues - if you experienced this problem with the air conditioner, what was the problem and how much did it cost to fix?

If the cost of repairs is $2000 or more, I'm considering trading the car in for a Qashkai (aka Rogue Sport). I'm concerned that the cost of repairs is going to get higher… Not sure how long the exhaust system well last for example.

If you did get a Qashkai, what do you think of it?
