Hello, im putting a black top s13 motor into a 96 SE and im having some trouble with the compressor bolting up. The compressor is so long that the back of it is hitting the engine mount when i try to bolt it up. i could possibly hammer the mount back to force it to fit, but i only want to do this as a last option. any ideas? with the way its looking, It doesn't appear that the nose of the compressor will be sticking out far enough to line up with the appropriate drive pully. Thanks

I don't have my a/c working as of yet, but I do have my compressor on there with a belt on it. I used my KA compressor with a redtop A/C bracket (blacktop bracket is different). As for the belt, I used a thinner belt to get around the offset pullies (3 rib instead of 4). I did not have any problems with lines etc going near the mount. The only problem with lines is that they come close to the turbo intake pipe and the power steering bracket. They used to touch, but I bent them away a little bit.

is it the same for the s13 chassis, will there be a difference in the a/c compressor lininng up with the blacktop rather than the redtop. Is one easier than the other fitment wise?

The S13's a/c lines run differently then the S14. It also depends if it is SOHC or DOHC. As for difference in mounting, I couldn't tell you. All I know was that my blacktop bracket didn't work for my compressor at all. I knew to try a redtop bracket because people on fresh alloy told me at the time I was doing my swap. The holes on the blacktop brocket are kind of offset and shifted in ways I've forgot. The redtop, it is squared and all holes for mounting of the compressor are evenly spaced. With the redtop bracket, all 4 of my compressor holes line up.

i was also thinking about pulling my blacktop bracket off do a tap and die for a new hole so it would line up. has anyone else done this because it sounds like a good idea to me. and after i get my compressor bolted up with a belt what do i gotta do next to get it to work?

so then i am searching for a 91-93 chassis w/ dohc motor for ease of a/c install...so wat i am hearing is that with a 91-93 240sx and a redtop everything is good, but there may be some differences if i put a blacktop in the same car?

First off i got a 90 s13 that had ac on the sohc w/ redtop SR in it. I didnt do my own swap(which i regret now) and the shop didnt give me my old lines so i have no lines now. I sourced a ka24de ac compressor, and condensor for it, but have no lines or drier or anything.

Im trying to avoid custom lines b/c that sounds really expensive!!!I heard that the ka-de lines will work with just bending them, is this true for my car? I want to go hunt down some ka24de lines but im not sure that they'll fit, If anyone has seen this setup or has it please post.

Thanks in advance

i have a 91 240 with a redtop, the DOHC s13 AC lines fit, they just touch the turbo actuator (on mine at least). No big deal :)

I've got AC in my '95, I used the S13 compressor (from Ebay) and the stock S14 high side line. The low side was cut off at the muffler and welded to the existing S14 line. Set up a toggle switch to kick the compressor on and off and I'm set. Works great, blows nice and cold. It stumbles a bit at idle, but I'll get that worked out too I hope.

My guess on the stumbling at idle is that you're bypassing the stock ECU a/c circuit. The ECU probably adds some fuel at low load w/ a/c engaged (as well as intercepting the signal and turning off a/c at high loads/rpms for performance reasons).

I know this is how my old DSM did it, and I'd assume the basic theory is the same between most ECU's.

yea, the idle air control valve isn't adjusting because it dosn't know the AC is kicking on and off....

evaporator core is under the passenger side glove compartment. Well basically right above it in the dash.

you can tell if you need it by looking in your bay. If you dont have black nipples for a/c line hookup coming out of the firewall then your gonna need it.

i've got redtop sr20 and am planning to use ka24de compressor, is it necessary to use compressor bracket, i dont have one, but i could probably get a ka24de one. I tried bolting the ka-de compressor right onto the motor w/ no bracket but didnt seem to line up??????????

You will need the mounting bracket from a redtop.

I'm in the middle of my swap. It's a s13 blacktop into a 93. I tried bolting the A/C Compressor from the KA but only one bolt lines up. I couldn't swap mounting brackets from my KA to the SR because that bolts up to the block differently. I'm going to have to see if I can get the SR a/c compressor to work with my a/c lines in there. i've got a friend at a shop that's willing to help me with that though. Hope this info helps someone...

I have a 95 se and i used the redtop compressor and bracket that came with the engine and modified the hoses. I also have mine wired so that it still works with the stock fan switch to kick on the compressor and it still cycles correctly
