Recently my air conditioner wasn't blowing cold air like it should. And yesterday when i tried to turn it on it didn't work at all. When i try to turn it on i hear the sound of the car engine change like it always does but the fan for the air conditioner does nothing. I had a new air conditioner motor and stuff put in about 6 years ago while it was still under warranty and it cost about $3000.What steps should i under go to try and trouble shoot this problem?

I am sorry. There is not much you can do without specialized AC tools. I am suspecting that your AC system is leaking refrigirant.

You should go somewhere wherever they service AC systems and as a first step have a leak down test done. It will narrow down the repair possibilities,

Is your compressor turning, the clutch will not engage if the freon pressures low.I agree with driver if you do not have the equipment take it somewhere andhave a leak check performed. Mine went out several months ago, luckily for me it was an o ring on a fitting going to the coil. 3 dollars for the ring and 1.5 lbs of freon and some comp oil. it works better then before.

I do have a good friend with all the equipment His attached garage has more square footage then his house.

I think its the blower/fan thats not working because there isn't any air blowing. I'm not sure how to tell if the compressor is working. When i turn the AC on it does change the RPM of the engine like it would normally do when it worked. I'm not sure if that means something is working or not.

When you say freon pressure engages a clutch are you reffering to the compressor? Would that affect the fan?

The blower fan isn't connected to the compressor. My guess is your blower fuse is blown or or the blower fan is fried.

The 2 blower fuses look fine so i guess the fan is toast. Is there a way to test this?

1- Look at the front of the compressor pulley, when the compressor is engaged the front part is turning.

2- Yes

I just emailed you a PDF on the J ac system from the maint manual follow the trouble shooting

Goto this link for the J manual:

To make sure the blower is working run the self diagnostics on starting on page 41. When you get to page 43 in step 4 and the system is in 41,42,45 or 46 get out and check to make sure that the compressor clutch is engaged. The compressor is located on the bottom of the drivers side front of the engine. The clutch is the center. If it is turning with the belt then you enough refrigerant and the compressor cltuch is working. If it is not turning then you need to have someone check the charge of the a/c system. If the system is low the clutch will not turn.

Below is a link to a picture of the compressor.

Alright folks i'm going to give an update......7 months later after my orginal post that is because i finally got around to fixing the problem. My pops helped me out by removing the blower fan. We plugged it in directly to the car battery and nothing happend, no spinning of the fan. So naturally i was, ****! I looked on ebay as well as infinti parts dealer and crapped on myself by the prices i saw.......Thats when memories of my radio controlled car days as a young lad triggerd a thought. Perhaps Dirty crusty brushes not making contact or fried armature may be the culpret . I grabbed my can of DEOXIT super kick *** contact cleaner i use when cleaning electronics in my musical equipment, amps, best contact cleaner i've come across as of yet. So i drenched the brushes and everything else. I let it dry for a few minutes and plugged it back onto the battery and the sucker came alive. We assembled the fan back together and SUCCESS! I have ac/heater again. I fixed this about 2 months ago and its still working fine.

One thing i did notice on the blower fan. It needs some new brushes for the motor. DOes anybody have a clue were I can get a pair?

By the way i used the contact cleaner on the battery terminals to clean off the corrosion i always get. I wanted to see if it would work and it sure did. Well of course it did, thats what this stuff is made for.
