Would someone please tell me where the above is physically located? I suspect behind the glove box but...... :gotme

Search returned nothing.

There is a drawing of it in the HA diagnostics section but I recognize nothing.

Thanks.

See page EL-375 of the 96 FSM (Location of Electrical Units, Passenger Compartment). It looks like it's more behind the Bose head unit than the glovebox.

Are you the Captain by chance with a different user name?

Thanks goody. that helps.

Yes skibane, saw that thread. Not applicable at this time as the fan is 100%.

Will try to figure out how to access the A/C auto amp for further testing.

Trying to search FSM for ambient sensor as well.

Thanks to all.

The location of the ambient air sensor in the 96 FSM is located on HA-91.

Thanks rkleff, turns out it is the A/C auto amp after all. Shame on me for not doing the full monty diagnostics.

The ambient temp on control is 100% correct.

Thanks to all.

The saga continues;
Installed new (used) A/C auto amp per FSM diagnostics results. Parked Q in shade. Raise hood. Set fan in front of Q. Raised RPM,s to steady 1500. Adjust A/C control to 69f. Fan on low. Recirc on. Achieved 48f at center vent for 25 min. Confirmed via Taylor thermo in center vent & a Raytek IR temp pistol. All is well.

Was preparing to put it all back together when much to my distress cold air stops flowing from vents. Temp readings rise to the 80f area. This is the exact same behavioral as before. Works then not.
I had previously cleaned the ambient sensor and the in dash sensor. Ambient sensor has always been spot on. I am at a total loss as to the next to do.......

Side note. Lady friend took it to a "A/C repair guy who told her that the compressor is ''almost worn out'' and of course needs replacement along with the dryer & expansion valve. (I know the last two are common practice when replacing the comp.) Does that make sense?

Any A/C gurus or others who may have experienced similar problems care to offer up a suggestion?

Thanks to all.

When it stops cooling, is the compressor clutch still engaged?
