Air Condition Hose Question, HELP!

Got a 75psi on my low side and 180psi on my high side.

The low port is right after the evaporator and from there it goes to the compressor but before it goes in i also see this silver cylinder device on the hose and i'm wondering if anyone knows what this thing is. Is it a filter? maybe this is whats blocking my freon. FSM manual states bad compressor, but i would imagine the gauges would fluctuate if this was the case unless that that cylinder is a one way valve... Ok now i'm just brain storming at all of you peeps about this. Sorry

So Forum, tell me WTF is this silver thing?

I'm about to go get another compressor but hate to do that and it end up being a bad hose you know...

Ok so while getting a new compressor today at the j/yard i took this hose of the car out there as well to inspect it, seems it's just there for looks or what ever it does it does not act as a one way valve nor is there any filter in it. I was able to fish a hose into it past that silver cylinder and i could also blow in both directions to. Hope this helps in the future :-)
