Air Condition/Heater problem

This recently happend like last week. I was talking to my girlfriend and the air conditioner was on full blast. All of the sudden, I hear this loud noise and my car stalls...So I turned off the AC and start the car again. I turned on the AC back on and my car stalls when I push it. I wasn't driving or anything, just parked under the hot Cali sun. So I was thinking, maybe it's time to take out the AC...cuz I have no interest in spending lots of money to fix it. But what bothers me the most is now, when I turn on the front window defroster, it stalls. This just happend this morning. So does the front window defroster have anything to do with the AC...? Nothing happens if I put it on the front window defroster and feet...just the front window defroster itself. So my question, is it my AC unit? Or is it something else...?

Sounds like your a/c compressor seized up. And, yes. When you put on in defog/defrost, your a/c compressor automatically turns on.
