Air Compressor is starting to sound loud..A/C going bad?

I have a 2000 Nissan Pathfinder, and the A/C is starting to sound very loud when turned on. After on for a while and the car is parked, you can clearly hear it pretty loud. Just doesn't sound right. Any suggestions on what I should do, test, or replace?

Mine's loud as hell and Nissan said it was fine when they replaced the low pressure hose at around 90k miles. I have 138.5k miles now.

Mine is at 163k miles and I don't think that anything has ever been done to it. I purchased the car at 112k miles, but the previous owner did not leave a service record.

If you start hearing a rattling sound then it means that it's going to fail soon. Mine failed at 140k miles.

Rattling from the air vents is something else. I think it might be bad blades on the blower motor. What I meant by rattling was the rattling coming from the A/C compressor in the engine bay. It usually means that things are disintegrating in there - bearings and whatnot.

Also, interestingly enough I only hear rattling from the vents/dash in winter when the heater is on. No rattling in the summer while running A/C.

Okay, good! lol so hopefully my compressor has some more life in it than i thought! And, as long as i am getting cold air in the summer, i don't care about the rattling haha
