My old direct drive Campbell Hauseld compressor took a dive. Bad bearing. Finally getting around to replacing it. I've been looking around a bit, and am about to make a purchase. I was looking at a Ranger Tri-Power setup running 43 cfm, but I'm thinking a little more clearly and reasonably now. Latest contenders are from a Canadian company called Eagle.

They offer 3 lines of compressors. I was considering an Iron Horse 11.2 cfm @ 90 psi. 230V and amp draw is 12 or so. Found it at Rural King for $399. Also an Eagle compressor that outputs 18.5 cfm for 699. I think it uses over 20 amps though. My question is: Will the 11.2 cfm be insufficient for paint spraying, D/A sander work, and maybe a little media blasting?

I know tools have cfm ratings, but I believe these tend to run low/ based on short run periods? So I was hoping someone with more direct experience could tell me how much would be necessary for these tasks. I could actually get a 2nd 6.5 hp gas compressor and use the two concurrently for the larger jobs. That would give me over 20 cfm's. Not sure if that's necessary though.

Just curious what y'all use and how they perform in real life. Just for DIY garage work. No professional shop here.
