So I bought a 2009 fx35. Car has the air body cleaner replaced by a K&N filter on both sides. They are just hooked on to the ends of the tubes hanging. As I drove from NJ, the car begins to stall and felt as if not enough air going into the engine. Like it was heavy. Next thing I know the check engine light, and slip light come on.

I go to mechanic. He pulls up code as MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR went off.

What is it about the current filters that causes this?

Possibly the oil if they are the serviceable/oilable kind. That sediment coats the hot MAF sensor wire. That's my experience with other cars, or it was just time for the MAF to go unless there's something particular to the FX35.
Is it a code for both sides.
