I am not sure if older VG30 engines have the same 3 baffles installed but I just got done removing all 3 on my Frontier. The purpose is to open up the airways so the engine can breathe easier. The entire job took me about 30 minutes only because the inner fender baffle was ready to fall out, I didn't have to fight it any. If I had needed to fight it the job would could have taken a lot longer. Nissan installs these baffles to keep intake noise down. The physics of using multiple chambers to counteract the pulsing vacuum noise caused by the cylinders. The downfall is the engine is only getting air from a small feed tube which isn't very efficient. The only item I used was a 2" expandable freeze plug to plug one of the holes on the intake bellows. I removed everything else and relocated the intake temp sensor. Since nothing electronic gets removed there will be no MIL as a result of removing all this stuff.

Results:

Butt Dyno says :bigthumb: and it feels more responsive. The engine reacts quicker for sure. I imagine MPGs will go up but not as long as I have my foot to the throttle. The growl of the VG intake is intoxicating. At speed the changes in volume/tone and not noticeable but if you mash the throttle the tone brings a smile to your face every time. I didn't get any pics of the process but I will get pics of the pieces I removed tomorrow. Some people have had to fight the inner fender baffle while mine just fell off, give yourself time and it'll come out. For less than $10 this mod is cheap and easy to do.

This stuff needs to come out.

Remove and save the rubber grommet that holds the intake air temp sensor from this tube.

What you are left with.

Drill 3/4" hole in the lower half of the filter box as shown. Insert the grommet I told you to remove and save.

Use a 1-7/8" - 2" expandable freeze plug from Advance Auto to fill the gaping hole in the intake hose.

I left both airways open so the engine has the least resistance from the intake possible. I may go to a different filter style in the future. Enjoy this inexpensive mod.

I love these free/cheap mods that make such a difference to the experience of driving our trucks. You said it best. It's intoxicating. Every time I do a new mod to my truck, I fall in love with it all over again.
