So I pulled my dash apart to install a new stereo/ipod connector and everything went smoothly until I accidentally disconnected the passenger air bag light. After I got everything back together, the air bag warning light on the instrument cluster started flashing and has continued to do so. Anyone know if there is a way for me to reset it without taking it in to the dealer? Thanks.

From all that I've heard, that's a job for the dealer to reset.

Yeah, you will have to go to your dealer to get it reset. They charge around $95

That's what I was worried about, I'm hoping it'll be covered under warranty if I play dumb about the whole thing (understandably, i wouldn't have to play dumb if I hadn't actually been careless). Thanks.

FOUND A SOLUTION! As long as the airbag hasn't ACTUALLY been depolyed, this will reset the system. 1.Turn the key from off to on. 2. Watch the airbag light closely. It will stay on for a few secs. and then as soon as it blinks off (the start of the flashing), turn the key to acc instantly. 3. Count to 5 (1 Mississippi, 2 Mississippi . . . .) 4. Repeat steps 1-3 two more times until you have done the cycle three times. 5. Now turn the key on and watch the light. It will start blinking in a different, slower manner. This is diagnostic mode. You can watch this for a little while, no hurry. 6. Now turn the key off again, Count to 5 like in step 3 again, and turn back on. If the procedure worked, the airbag light will not be flashing.

After I completed step 4 and turned the ignition back on, the light quit flashing without the need for step 5 & 6

That's going to save a lot of people from unnecesarily draining their wallet.

Thanks!!!

Well, It managed to change how my airbag light flashed, but never actually turned if off completely. Did the complete diagnostic about 5-6 times.

Here's the instructions from the service manual, they seem almost the same as posted above, just timing is a little different and includes more steps to switch back from diag mode. Maybe that will help you get the light off? (however, reading the caution at the end might suggest the system thinks there's really a malfunction in your system?)

HOW TO CHANGE BETWEEN USER MODE AND SLEF-DIAGNOSIS MODE WITHOUT CONSULT-II1. Turn ignition switch from OFF to ON. 2. Within 2 second after air bag warning lamp is on for 7 seconds and turns off, turn off ignition switch. 3. After ignition switch is turned off, wait for more than 3 seconds. 4. repeat steps 1 to 3 two times. (preform 3 times in total.)5. Turn ignition switch O"N again. (Turn to Diagnosis mode.)

(there's a silly little diagram here showing a loop between user and diagnostic modes)

1. Turn ignitions switch from OFF to ON. 2. Within 1 second after air bag warning lamp is on for 7 seconds and turns off, turn off the ignitions switch. 3. After ignitions switch is turned OFF, wait for more than 3 seconds. 4. Repeat steps 1 to 3 two times. (preform 3 times in total.)5. Turn ignitions switch ON again. (turn to user mode.)

CAUTION: In user mode, when the "AIR BAG" warning lamp is not blinking, switching to Diagnosis mode by ignition switch operation is not possible. In Diagnosis mode, when no malfunctions is detected, user mode ban be switch on by turning the ignition switch from OFF to ON.

HOW TO ERASE SELF-DIAGNOSIS RESULTSAfter a malfunction is reparied, turn the ignition switch OFF for at least one second, then back ON. Diagnosis mode returns to the user mode. At that time, the self-diagnostic result is cleared.
