Nissan recalls Infiniti G35 sedans, coupes
Recall affects as many as 134,000 cars for airbag problems
Reuters
updated 9:44 a.m. ET, Tues., May 4, 2010
DETROIT - Nissan Motor Co recalled Infiniti G35 sedans and coupes affecting as many as 134,000 cars due to a connector that could cause airbags not to deploy during a crash, U.S. regulators said on Tuesday.

The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said as many as 134,215 Infiniti G35 sedans from model years 2005-2006 and G35 coupes from model years 2005-2007 are subject to the recall.

About 65 percent of the vehicles recalled are sedans and about 35 percent coupes, a Nissan spokesman said. The affected models were made at a Nissan plant in Japan. Both the sedan and coupe are of the previous generation of G35s.

Nissan spokesman Colin Price said no injuries or accidents have been reported.

NHTSA said a wire harness for the airbags may wear down to the point that it could interrupt a signal to deploy the airbags in the event of a crash.

Most of the vehicles involved are in the United States, but cars are also recalled in South Korea, Canada, Puerto Rico, Taiwan, Guam and the Middle East, Price said.

Price said that a red warning light will be displayed on the dashboard when the connection is disrupted to signal the airbag to deploy. He said drivers should take their cars to an Infiniti dealer at that point.

For cars where the red airbag signal is not lit, consumers will be notified soon by Nissan and Infiniti when to bring their cars in for service, Price said.

Nissan informed federal officials of the potential problem two weeks ago, NHTSA reports show.

Infiniti is the luxury brand for Nissan.

"The affected sedans are model years 2005 and 2006 and the coupes are 2005 to 2007 models.

The issue relates to possible wear on a wire harness that could prevent airbags from deploying during a crash. Nissan has yet to announce a fix or timetable for the recall."

But seriously. There havent been any issues so far, but its a good preventative measure. It should kick off late this month.

That's great, dude. You are what they call 'ignorant'.

It only takes one time, then you won't have to worry about it when your in a wheel chair, sucking life through a straw. You will be tied down then. Next time you see a car wreck, take a minute and see what happens to people when 4000lbs. going 50 mph. hits something else with the same amount of mass and energy. Ask a cop sometime about how many people they have pulled out of accidents who weren't wearing seatbelts, and that if they were, they'd be alive to be appreciated by their family and friends, but they were just too ignorant to do one simple thing.

I feel sorry for you that you think a seatbelt is tying you down.

Something tells me he was just being cheeky about it.

But, :slap: wear your seatbelt. It improves your chances of staying alive..that's FACT!

I'd hate to lose a NICO brother.

That's a national law now. The "Click it or ticket" campaign was national.
