Unfortunately, I have no better news than you. I sent a letter to corporate firmly requesting that they use a different brand than Takata for my recall fix. They sent me a short, sweet reply stating that at this time, that is not an option. My concern is that even the replacement systems will still have the same propellant but with a drying agent added which will still place everyone at risk, but at a slower rate. I live in South Florida which is the number 1 area in the regions affected - the highest occurrence of failures. For now, I placed a towel on the passenger seat. On that towel, I have a small crate with the seat belt attached to hold it in place. In the crate, I placed a couple books to add enough weight to cause the "air bag off" lamp to illuminate. Nobody rides in that seat ... ever.
My car has been in this area since delivery from Infiniti, and since it is now 7 years old, I reckon the replacement system should be good for at least another 7 years. Before that 7 years is done, I will have moved on to another car. I will do whatever I can to confirm that my next car does NOT have airbags supplied by Takata - the only manufacturer who recklessly continues to use ammonium nitrate as a propellant.
FYI: I made a post a while back with details we all should know about this danger and in it is an article and video of the continued threat of the replacement systems.
