Hello Forum,

I have a 2001 Q45t, with about 75,000 miles on it. Today, on my way back from a burrito run, I notcied the air bag light on the dash board was blinking. I haven't been in any accidents or anything, it just popped up on it's own. Obviously I'll get it fixed for safety purposes, I was just curious if this has happened to anybody else, and what the diagnosis was, and how much it might cost to stop the light from blinking.

Thanks for any insight.

go into the HOW-TO section and read on the airbag light. Often times it gets put into self diagnostic mode and usually you can get rid of it by pressing the door switch 10 times within 10 seconds of turning the key on.

you probably have about 20 questions about that phrase, so go find that article in the HOWTO section, read up, give it a try (multiple times if it doesnt work the first try) and then come back if you need more assistance...

Thanks so much for the help, and to again reveal my n00b status, can you point me in the direction of the "how to" section? Thanks again!

It's in the articles sticky above.

But it is also in the FSM.

Read that first so you know about what you are talking.

I had this light on too when I removed my seats to change the sunroof (lol) literally press the door switch 10 times within 10 seconds and it turns off!

I did this last night when I got home. when the tech worked on the belts he took the battery out then put it back once he was done, and the light came on. I know it was this because I heard disconnecting the battery for long periods of time can cause this to happen.

Well my dumb****, a week ago that it was the door switch for the looks and ended up putting my car in lock mode, nothing would start unless shifted into gear and turned the front wheel far left, far right, then front, then everything turned on again. I am not sure which mode I put it in doing this, but I fixed it.

So last night I read the articles and found it was down by the door. One thing I did notice is you have to do it twice, once to take it out the mode, then again to actually turn the light off. I was fully prepared to take it to a Infiniti Dealer seeing as a friend had this problem in her Acura TL and it was gonna cost her $600 to fix.

Just to save you all some time: the "door switch" referred to is the rubber covered toggle switch on the frame of the door itself, the one that the door itself closes upon to turn off the dome lights, etc., when you get in the car--in other words, don't close your door while you are trying this fix (and don't start the car, just put the key in the "on" position and then press the toggle ten times). The fix worked for me, by the way (blinking air bag light). Many thanks.

This fix does not seem to work on my 1997 Q45. I have the door open and turn the key to "on" without turning the car on. I then push the door switch button (I'm assuming it's the black plastic button that locks/unlocks all the doors) 10 times and nothing happens. The airbag continues blinking at .5 second intervals the same way it does if I don't push anything on the door.

In other words, I can't even enter the diagnostic mode that the FSM talks about.

Try the same procedure but this time push the switch in the door jamb that leaves the interior lights on when the door isn't completely shut. I bet your airbag light goes off.

Ouch, yeah now I feel stupid. It put the car into diagnosis mode - the airbag light now flashes with a different pattern. FSM says that for that pattern, this has to be done:
Repair order (“Recheck SRS at each replacement.”)
1. Visually check the wiring harness connection.
2. Replace the harness if it has visible damage.
3. Replace side air bag module (LH).
(Before disposal, it must be deployed.)
4. Replace the diagnosis sensor unit.
5. Replace the related harness.

I don't plan on replacing anything so I guess I'm just stuck with the light?
The car was hit really badly on the left side but the airbag didn't deploy - could this be a genuine error code?

And to anyone who, like me, didn't/doesn't understand what button we're all talking about, it's this thing on the car itself, not the door: Image

It could just be a loose connection in the seat or behind the seat airbag. It might be worth taking it apart to make sure.
