Hi,

I have a 2007 Nissan Frontier. I have an air bag light coming on that I used to be able to reset using the documented process. I can no longer turn it off and the on-board diagnostic service (based upon flash pattern) is telling me LH Pre-tensioner problem. With fault code reader, I'm getting a "B1089, Pre-Ten Fron Left Hand Short".

I had already replaced the seat belt and pre-tensioner with genuine Nissan part. This seemed to temporarily fix the problem; however it has returned. I checked the pre-tensioner with an ohm meter and according to research, it's working properly because I got a 2.3/2.4 reading. I have also checked continuity of the harness between pre-tensioner and DSU and all seems fine. Those two steps were 1 and 2 for this fault code in the SRS Manual. The 3rd recommended step is to replace the DSU itself. I'm loath to spend $300 for a replacement on a truck that I only use from time to time. There are reset services, but I don't know that that's my problem. I do know the vehicle was wrecked prior to me owning it, but I was not getting a air bag warning light when I bought it. The DSU does not appear to be damaged in anyway.

Is there any way to do some testing on the DSU to see if that's really the problem?

Are you using a Factory Service Manual? No dianoses procedure for the DSU? It looks like it can be tested with a Consult-II (which I think is a dealership type computer). I too would want to make sure a $300 part has failed before replacing it. Maybe get a quote for dealership diagnoses of the SRS system.

Here's a link to the manual I looked at:

I found this video. They guy seems angry. He goes about finding a bad sensor I guess, part of a recall. It might help:
