air bag light has begun to flash

Hi Gang,Im a new 240sx owner and the previous owner had the passenger side airbag installed to pass inspection about 2-3 years back. Now the airbag light has started flashing. Any ideas what would cause that and how much trouble it would be to fix it. I have to get an inspection and I wont pass with that light flashing.Thnks!!!Bill

when that light flashes, it means that theres a malfunction with that system, if you typed "flashing airbag light" on google, you would click once and get all your answers. try searching next time

I tried the door button trick, didnt work. Dash was replaced about two years ago without any problems. Is there an on/off switch for the passenger side airbag on a 94 240sx? I cant find it, but the glove box has a hole at the top that looks like where a key lock used to be.I dont have a OBD I code reader for this car to see what code it is throwing. heres a possible solution I found on another site. Maybe it will work on my 94 240sx. I will let ya know if it does.

If you have the airbag light, it will show steady for a few seconds (the manual says 7 secs) after you turn the key from off to on (but not start) and then start to flash. Here is how to reset it:

1. Turn the key from off to on.

2. Watch the airbag light closely. It will stay on for a few secs. and then as soon as it blinks off (the start of the flashing), turn the key off instantly.

3. Count to 5 (1 Mississippi, 2 Mississippi . . . .)

4. Repeat steps 1-3 two more times until you have done the cycle three times.

5. Now turn the key on and watch the light. It will start blinking in a different, slower manner. This is diagnostic mode. You can watch this for a little while, no hurry.

6. Now turn the key off again, Count to 5 like in step 3 again, and turn back on. If the procedure worked, the airbag light will not be flashing.

If it does not work the first time, just repeat the steps again.

I didn't know of a passenger air bag switch. Do you know if the driver door switch works? OBD 1 code reader won't read air bag codes. I would call around to a few shops and see what they would charge to pull codes. Find out the codes then we can help you diagnose the problems.

Car was checked about 3 months back. Had a knock sensor code and a O2 sensor code. My door switch works fine. push it in and the interior light goes off, bell stops dinging..etc. This car was a salvage wreck rebuilt buy the previous owner and I cant get his number. it is titled as a 95 but the door sticker says 2/94 so Im not sure what year it is. Had a new dash installed and everything worked fine for about 2 years. Now the bag light is flashing. Gonna pull the instrument panel and yank out the bulb I guess. A buddy of mine had this problem, and someone at the shop told him to disconnect the battery for about an hour, and it would "reset". I doubted it, but when he tried it out overnight he said the flashing airbag light wasn't there anymore, and it hasn't popped back up yet.

ok, I got it to stop flashing finally! What I did was turn the key on, push the door light button about 7 times immediately after turning the key on. that caused the light to flash longer and much slower. then I turned off the key and waited about 30 seconds, then I repeated the same thing again. the light went off...and stayed off! Now if I can just get the CEL off, all will be right in the world...lol.Thanks for the help and I hope this info helps out.Bill

well, help the "foult" you had doesnt come back. next time, try fixing the problem. same with the cell. no wonder theres so many haggerd a** 240s around
