Ok hope this gets to every one. In the air bag system on EVERY nissan and infiniti there are 3 places for codes:one is for current. anything in this section when checking with consult is failing right now and needs to be fixed.
another is past. this is a code that was stored at some point and is now not failing since it is not in current(unless it is in current now)
the third is history. this will only store a code if one was erased with consult. it essentially moves the code from past to history.
the light will only illuminate if a code is stored in current OR past but will not illuminate if there is only a code in history.
the control unit code is usually set when the diagnostic sensor unit(airbag control unit) recieves less then 9 volts when the key is in the on position. if you had a battery go dead on you it can trigger that code. rule of thumb on that code. If it is not in history already and is not in current but only in past you can have them perform the erase procedure and the code will be filed in the history section and the light will shut off. timos240 your code was in past I am sure. when that code started popping up nissan was back and forth with it in TSB's first they said in one if the code was present to replace the control unit. then they revised the bulliten and said to just clear the code if it wasent in history already, then they revised it to just say "follow the service manual recommendations" which almost always says on any air bag codes to check the harness if ok replace the part. there are no diagnostic procedures in the FSM or specs for airbag components. it is a parts hanging procedure. But after a little research of my own when talking to techs on techline and speaking to instructors at tech school. I came up with the reason for the code as mentioned above.Zenki I recommend you go to the dealer, have them pull the codes and ask them to print out the results in all three sections and show it to you. if you only see "control unit" in past tell them all you want them to do is erase the code. and be done with it. if it is some other code then you may want to persue why it threw a code. these codes are all open or short codes. so if you remember unplugging something with a yellow connector that may be the reason for the code.
