Air Bag light 1998 I30

Last week my airbag light began flashing for no apparent reason on my 1998 I30. I have done a little research on this matter and have a few questions. I have tried taking off both battery cables for more than 3 minutes hoping that this would "reset" the system but to no avail.

A. I have seen a reset code for a Q45 in another forum which involved unlocking doors and turning the ignition on and off multiple times. Is this just someone having fun, or does this actually work. If so, is there a "code" for the 98 I30 to turn this light off.

B. Is the only way for me to fix this to go to the dealer and get "bent over" and have them charge me more than $500 for something simple? I am hoping to sell this car in a couple months and really do not want this added expense.
