Hi all,

Asked this question before in a sub-forum, but without luck. :tisk:

My mechanic needs the codes for air bag system in order to repair.

The '97 hard body was last year of the model, and the computer interface didn't come out until the Frontier model in '98.

So, does anyone know were I can find the codes, online or elsewhere?

Thanks in advance,

-AJ

Not sure I understand your question.
Codes?
Do you mean interpret the codes?
You would have to tell us the codes first.

Air bag system codes have nothing to do with OBD-II.

Thanks a lot--I'll take a look.

What's happening is the air bag light is flashing, and the mechanic has located the connector at the driver side door that puts out a code telling you what's wrong (I suspect the nitrogen cartage is low). The following year, Frontier, the computer contains all the codes so troubleshooting is a bit easier.

Have you asked a Nissan service department? They usually have answers for these questions. It may not be putting out a code because it doesn't have one.

We've seen the same "blinking air bag light" problem on the Q45's and unless there really is an issue with the air bag system the fix is very simple. I think that your system has somehow gotten switched over to the diagnostic mode and you need to get back to the user mode. Look at the note at the top of FSM page RS-29 and it says to turn the ignition switch from the OFF position to the ON position and depress the driver's door switch 5 times within 7 seconds and the air bag light will go off (aka ....switch back to user mode). If it doesn't go off you do have an issue with the system and need to continue with the self-diagnosis without Consult.

The system goes into the diagnostic mode following the same procedure if you somehow opened and closed the door 5 times with the key in the on position. Here's a few things to check before you pay a mechanic to diagnose...... Is the rubber shroud covering the door switch intact? Is ithe switch not screwed in tightly or is there corrosion on the switch? Do the interior lights come on normally when you open the driver's door?
