i was on my way to my foreign language honor society induction ceremony. i had to say a speach in italian. anyway, i was going over the speach in my head, all of a sudden, i look ahead. and the car in front of me brakes hard. i try to brake but i run right into him. the damage isnt too bad. my license plates a little effed up, and the chrome strip on the grille is popping out a little, a couple of scratches and dents. but still, i havent even had my car for a year yet. i'm so upset with myself. how much do you think my insurance will go up? i mean, i'm 17, the car i hit was a beamer. the damage on the beamer isn't too bad either. a dent in the back, and a few scratches. am i going to get a new bumper? or will it just be repaired?

Well...personally...I wouldn't put in the claim. Did you two file a police report already and already contact insurance?

I would just bite the bullet and pay for his paint touch up and pay for yours. Without Pics it is IMPOSIBLE to say if you will need a new grille (or if he will) but BRAND NEW grille and paint is $1000 MAX. You would have to pay MAX of $2k without the insurance companies.

With the insurance, pay your $500 or $1000 deductable, and then expect a $200-$600 increase for 6 months (or 15%-25% is what I would expect). The accident will stay with your record for 3 years, so if it is just $400 a year increase, you would pay $1200-$1500 extra over 3 years, plus deductable...so, low deductable it is a toss up...high deductable...just pay out of pocket.

If you file a police report and a claim...expect your insurance to go up significantly, and not to come down until you are like 25.
