I found a set of RE Amemiya's 17x8.5 and 9.5. The only downside is the offset is +42 all around.... wtf, I really wanted these wheels. If I were to get these wheels, obviously I want a much lower offset. So I started thinking about it more and more and I think I have myself stumped now. If I cut down the barrels about an inch off each wheel and then got new lips that are 1" wider than the standard ones, wouldn't that lower the offset?

Yeah man they're 3 piece. Here's what I'm saying:

See what I mean? My whole reason for doing this is because I prefer not to run spacers.

That would lower the offset, yes. How much can you get this done for?

I don't know how much it would cost, just an idea right now. I figure new lips are ~$150, and getting the barrels cut down would probably be under $50 a wheels. I could even buy new barrels if I wanted to but then it would just get crazy expensive at that point.I wish I could just buy the faces.

That Would Actually Raise The Offset.

Got It The Other Way Around...

How so? I would basically be pushing the wheel outward; poke. The other way around would just make them sunk in more and that would be making the offset higher... would it not?

sinking the center deeper into the hoop would lower the offset making it "negative"setting it out toward the lip would make it more posativefar as cutting out the lip and replacing it/ no way wouldnt workthe only way ifit were a two piece wheel and you could unbolt the centerand move it to a new rim shell you can have a shop copy the centers you want out of aluminum and put it into a barrel but would be pretty exspensive , probably 5 to 6 hundred a piece

As stated, it is a 3 piece wheel. I can get fatter lips, and I can get slimmer barrels if I really wanted to.But you did confirm that my statement that fatter lips and slimmer barrels= lower offset. I think it is better understood.

Just Noticed I Was Looking At The Wheels From The Back, And You From The Front.

For Some Reason My Eyes Didn't Register The Neon Green Letters.

Yes That Would Lower The Offset.

And Since 1"=~25mm, Your Wheels Would Then Be +17 All Around.

A Decent Filament For A S13. Just Don't Know About The Whole Cutting Part, Wouldn't It Be Easier To Just Get New Size Barrels?

New plan. Get slimmer wheels with a high offset and just buy fatter lips, no messing with the barrels necessary. 7.5" wheel with +40 offset, add 1.5" to the lip and BOOM! exactly what I'm going for.

Getting the lips cut/widened will not be less expensive than buying new barrels/lips.

The one place I know that does quality work, charges >$150 per wheel to widen.

word. I decided the easiest thing to do would be to just buy wider lips and bolt them johns berries on there.

Why Not Just Piece Together The Wheels.

Used Face, New/Used Barrels.

That was the original plan but I can't find anyone who sells RE Amemiya faces

just chiming in...

adding lip to barrell = lowering offset

but why not just get spacers? 25mm spacers would be a pretty simple fix, and cheaper too!

I just prefer not to run spacers. I'd rather have the right wheel.

then you contradict yourself. 1) its the wrong size to begin with2) Isn't RE Amemiya a Mazda company? You're thinking about cutting perfect barrels (sizing is perfect for a FD3S by the way) to accomodate for your 240sx. Personally, I'd skip the whole idea and look else where for some wheels... but that's just me.

and besides, there's nothing wrong with spacers.

I realize they are made to fit a fd, but they are by far the most legit looking wheels I've seen to date. I have to have a set... ... . Maybe spacers wouldn't be so bad....

Did you get these off Memory Fab?

Help me understand what you mean by "the most legit wheels"?

Those fitments would also work real well for an S2000 and even an NSX, thought most NSX guys run staggered diameter as well.

I didn't buy them off memory fab, no. That is where I first saw them and decided those were the wheels I wanted though. I actually called them last week to ask if they would sell just the faces but sadly the guy I spoke with told me they forgot to update the site and the wheels had already been sold.Legit= Seriously amazing to my eyes
