I shorted something out when I was replacing the fuse on my cd player. now my belt wont retract unless the car is on and my clock resets every time I open the door. My dome light doesnt work either and of course the cd player doesnt do squat. I know little about electrical but I can manage, not troubleshoot, if anyone could possible diagnose this I would apreciate it so I can get my music and safety belts working again

i, and many others i am sure, could potentially diagnose this if i could see the car, and trace wires, etc..... without it being here for me to work on, there is no way i could tell you what is shorted out because i have never run into those symptoms before... find someone locally to help you out, and/or get wiring diagrams and start looking at possibilities... electrical stuff is a funny thing... grounded wires and such can really do odd things, i've run into some weird stuff in the past years.

First start by checking EVERY fuse, both in the passenger compartment and engine compartment.

Were you splicing(cutting and reconnecting) any wires? If so, it is possible that you connected the wrong wires.

Did you use the proper size fuse? If you used a higher then recommended fuse, it is possible that you literally melted a few wires

The fuse I was putting in was a little weaker than spec, but of course ive put a few in before because it was so weak if you turned it up loud it would go out. So it was just another day when I took the consol apart and was putting a new one in when SNAP my dome light went off in my car and then noticed all that other stuff later on. I know I shorted a wire somewhere behind my CD player, just don't know which one. I can't believe I haven't thought of checking the fuse's, i'll go ahead and do that once I get my clutch finished and let ya know. Thanks

We can solve this. Did you install the cd player by cutting the factory wire harness and cutting and splicing the factory wires or did you use an aftermarket wire harness adaptor to connect to your new cd player's wire harness?

It sounds like your illumination wire and your 12v memory wire are switched or touching. But lets take this one step at a time.

This is the second cd player i had in, the last one went out but the harness works with my new cd player. It worked fine before I think I just shorted two wires when I was replacing the fuse for the 5th time.
