so when I bought the car the guy that did the full tune up on it had told me it was a really strong pulling ka was rebuilt 60k or so miles ago and the compression test was 175 on all four cylinders. so recently I have had a problem starting my car I try and try and it will eventually start after about a minute after I give the gas hell any idea's ? oh and I have the typical timing chain rattle could that or a dirty air filter cause this? my clutch is almost gone also still running on the 17 year old stock one. it also idles above 1k about 4 little notches up when normally it idles below 1k.EDIT: forgot to mention this is a 91 ka24de hatch.

so more and more problems are happening I found out I have a oil leak so the car ran low on oil pretty bad I filled it upand now it dies when I go to go off in first gear unless I give the gas hell. and when I first wake up to drive it its fine until it warms up then it idles above 1k and drops and goes back up and now its getting even harder to get it to start this is just getting ridiculous any help at all would be greatly appreciated I dont wanna have to pull the motor tomorrow. this is my daily driver and I HAVE to have it running right again as soon as possible BUMP.

No idea about your main problems as Im not a mechanic. You can run car without air filter to see if it improves running of car. the rattle is not important on the 1991-1998 240sx. Leaking oil im guessing is serious. is there oil in coolant?

as far as I know I don't think there is any oil in the coolant its like after I drive the car for about an hour and turn it off it doesn't to start anymore its getting worse and worse and harder to start I read a thread just now that sounded kind like what I'm having going on but I tried to start it and it had this wierd nose that sounded like a blow valve and stalled then started I'm going to pull the vc and check it out right now thanks for the reply!

Is there a lot of oil leaking out? Where is it in relation to the car? You definitely want to get that fixed. If theres a lot of oil spilling and its near the firewall, then you could have a busted rear main seal. This is all speculation though as I have no idea whats going on with that leak. Does the car run hot at all?

i would do a compression test, and also change/check your injector seals.

I'm not sure about the oil leakage but your car not starting up right away and the up'n'down idle, sounds just like mine used to before I changed the fuel pump. Might want to consider it, yours may be going out.

Fuel pump and /or fuel filter is where I would start. BTW I am treating the oil problem and the hard start as two seperate problems even though they may end up being related.

yeh I'm gonna replace the fuel pump and see what it is does. I do know the starter is acting up though so I'm gonna try and replace that tomorrow. thanks for all the help, it starts way to quick sometimes as soon as the key turns over the cars on and sputters a little bit in the process, like it starts way to quick

I bet your dirty filter lead to dirty maf sensor. This happen to me one time. It ran ruff, idled high, shut off frequently, hard starting in cold or hot, progressively got worse. Start the down with least expensive then work your way up. As for the oil problem problem ur front/rear seals could be it. Go to kreagan and buy some maf sensor cleaner. This is good stuff and last a life time. best 5 dollars ive spent.
