AHH! Headlights!

ok, i have tried many things on my 1993 Infiniti J30 to figure out what the problem is. my headlights willl just randomly turn off, and then after a little bit, they will turn back on. i dont do anything special to have them turn back on, i just sit there and they just randomly turn on and off by themselves. i already replaced the headlight switch, that didnt help.

i looked at the wiring, and the last owner did something really weird. he cut the power wire on the drivers-side headlight, spliced a wire in, and ran the wire to the passenger-side headlight. i checked something, and i found out that the power wire that goes to the low-beam driver-side headlight doesnt have anything going through it, it is a dead wire. i dont know if this would have anything to do with the headlights turning on and off randomly. in short, both my headlights run off the wiring going to my passenger headlight.

The J30s had a problem with the box-o-relays that control the headlights. It is pretty common to have one-eyed J's. You need to de-engineer the stuff that the former owner did, and replace the relays. Check out http://www.fuzzycats.com/j30 for more information.

thanks! i replaced my relay yesterday, and so far it all works! i took my old relay apart and on one corner of the board, it was all corroded and everything. and i also redid my wiring back to how its supposed to be. thanks again.
