okay i've got agx's and agx strut boots. i tried fitting the strut boots and s.tech springs on them to make sure everything's okay, and the fronts go together fine, but the rear boots are too wide for the springs to go over them. has anyone else run into this? the spring sits in the seat perfect without the boot, and the boot fits perfect without the spring, but the spring and the boot can't both be on at the same time....unless there's something i'm missing...

has anyone seen negative effects from not using boots on their agx's?

Hello,

I have the same set up that you have, AGX and TEIN S-TECH springs. I ordered the shock bellows from tire rack which are made by KYB. I am installing my springs tomorrow, so I will take pictures and let you know.

Well, although my set up is different from you guys, I assume they should be similiar.

My experience with KYB shock bellows:I had to cut one complete coil of bumpstops in order to reserve enough compression travel for my HTS shocks plus KG/MM spirngs combination. They fit ok except the bottom portion is bit too big than shock body so I used plastic tie to secure it.

cheers.

Hey Driftaholic can you tell me how your setup rides/performs? Thats the setup i wanted to go for. I have tokico blues right now and wanted to get s-tech springs. maybe they will be similar. thanks!

Thats weird, so it got me thinking. I went out to the garage and looked at mine. I have Eibach's and AGX's, and ordered new (KYB) strut boots (the old strut boots crumble when you touch them!) with them. The strut boots are snug going into the rear spring, but they do fit.MY best guess it that your old boots have expanded over time, which is probably why they dont fit. This post probably has a help factor of about zero, but at least you know the KYB boots will fit! (KYB boots=10 buck apeice at tirerack)

Duh, in short period of time, guess you are OK w/o a boot. However, it is definitely recommended! boot can keep dirt, water away from shock piston rod. Most important, dust powder from brake pads and rotors kill the rod seal! results=leaking! get them.

the boots i'm talking about are the kyb ones from tirerack, not the oem ones (my oem ones are just a stack of rubber rings now haha). i've tried screwing them and jamming them into the springs, but it seems like they just wont go...

the boots i got are part numbers SB103 and SB104. is this what other people got?

i doubt the eibachs are a different diameter than the teins, so if these are the right part numbers, i guess i'll have to just MAKE them fit

Ok guys i think i may have it figured out. I too had the same problem today with my rear strut boots (KYB). I have a S14 so the front ones are SB103's and the rears are SB108's. Now the front ones were perfect, no troubles at all. However the rear ones were nothing like the old ones and they didn't seem to fit over the strut. So i just figured that I would go to the shop i ordered them from and tell them they gave me the wrong part. So i did, and they checked the model # and it was the right part, so they called KYB. And according to KYB Nissan has changed the design since the last one was flawed in some way. So they assured me that if i ordered them from nissan i would get the same part. If you look at them closely you'll notice that they're tapered inside. So they told me to put a little oil on the inside tappered edge and force it on until it's where it should be.

Hope this helps, i won't know until next week though cause i won't get a chance to work on it until then...

Some of mine weren't even there, at least the middle wasn't cause the top and bottom were still attached. Oh and the rest were shredded to powder....pretty bad, my bearings were gone too on the front upper strut mounts. But at least now i got all new gear, a new set of bushings and i'll be happy...

You too? Mine crumble into black dust when you touch them!

I plan on putting on my springs/struts/boots tomorrow, (providing i can get a spring compressor) i'll let you guys know how the boots fit.

Got everything on today(struts/boots/springs), the SB108's are a perfect fit in the rear , just FYI.

Driftaholic, you may want to go ahead and trade your in for the SB108's.

'Fraid not. The boots are definitely worth the cost and the time to install, IMO.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but the KYB boots should be just fine. The OE ones are incredibly expensive for a big chunk of rubber, and according to KYB the design of the boot was changed on the OE part as well as the KYB part.

Read Redline's post a bit further up the page. He describes how to get the boot on. FWIW, I have an S13 and KYB boots on the front struts...they're cheap and get the job done. It's really not a complex part.
