Alright, well my car has been running like s*** ('92 240sx, KA24DE)

My ECU is throwing a code 34 (knock sensor), so i replaced it (sort of lol) after a few hours of messing with it, i decided to just plug it in and ground it just to see if the code would go away then i would go ahead and spend the next few hours bolting it back up...

Well it's STILL throwing a code 34... So my question is, does the knock sensor actually need to be bolted to the block to make the code go away? Because i figured just having it plugged up would be enough just to get the code to go away... or do you think i have a wiring problem between the plug and the ECU?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

test it! to see if its good..there is a procedure in the FSM for the testing of all sensors...you do need to install it thou man..as the sensor send the ecu signals based on the engines vibration..allso..after the install..disconnect the battery..pump the brake a few times to clear the codes..then hook up the battery again and check it...easy..good luck.

Ive never heard of a knock sensor making your car run that bad you do know if your car is running rough or vibrating from a misfire or imbalance it will set a knock sensor code? I think you have another issue.

Well it makes perfect sense or a knock sensor to make your car run bad.

When the ECU gets a knock sensor code, it retards your timing to full retard to "save your motor"

but if you have any other suggestions let me know!

It fully retards but it doesnt retard to make it misfire Im telling you I think you have another issue but Im not an expert but ive seen knock sensors go bad and the ecu is a little smarter than what you realize it has a maximum amount of timing change but if you replace it and it works then I will learn something new good luck man and post what you find.

Alright, thanks for your help... i still haven't had the time to (completely) replace it. I've still been driving it... and today it was running worse than usual.. very rich and sputtering really bad

So i had another question, if my car has a Walbro 255 (i think it does, because the car USED to have an SR from the previous owner) would i need to run an aftermarket FPR to keep it from running so rich? could that be part of my problem?
