Has anyone out there put on aftermarket wheels with TPMS? Do we have to buy new TPM sensors for the new wheels? What happens if the new wheels don't have TPMS? Does that tire warning light stay on all the time? All imputs would be greatly appreciated!

From what I know, you don't need to put TPMS on the new tires. It'd be quite costly to have them recalibrated. Most people just leave them off and dealw ith the warning light that comes on in the dash. Some put a black piece of tape over it.

many threads bout this... you can switch them.. i didnt... the light blinks for 1 min... then stays on... i use it to time a cold start... it doesntg bother me and it wasnt worth unmounting the stock tires to get the tpms out, to only put it into different wheels later.. who cares..... in addiiton, i think they can use those coder things to make the light go off if you like

If you buy additional TPM sensors for the new wheels, and leave the current wheels intact as-is, can they just be mounted? What's this "recalibration" you speak of?

Warning lights suck, and I'd like to have the system working properly if possible.

the tpms sensors will run you like $200... you can put them in any wheels you want (some 3 piece fancy ones dont have room)... If you need a light to tell you you have a flat.. i think theres other issues that need to be addressed... lol

I don't need a light to tell me I have a flat, but, jeez, I just bought the car, and I like to to work like its supposed to for at least a little while.

Let's pretend for a moment that someone doesn't want to "just put up with the warning light" - what's involved in recalibrating a pressure sensor? I don't mind paying for new sensors, but not if its gonna cost $1000 to "calibrate" them...

well I'll tell you one thing, I'm glad the Altimas TPMS don't chime in addition to the light. In my dad's Lexus SC 430, the damn thing chimes all the time because he put aftermarket rims on it...and instead of a nice little white, contantly on light, the lexus has a blinking amber light, and the chime beeps every 3 minutes like 5 or 6 times... now that's annoying!

They can trick the light off with a code reader... idk how (someone else will chime in here to help)...

But if you want it to work how its supposed to, dont change a thing.... Thats how its supposed to work lol...

And just an FYI... TPMS is a DOT mandate in 08... i got lucky on some penny stocks that made TPMS in 06 and scored but the logic behind them is for the same people that wait for the other "dummy" lights to go on...

In addition, TPMS sensors are as finicky as can be... they break easily too...

IMHO its just better to leave them OUT of the situation... unless you would be selling your stock wheels (im gonna sell the tpms with my stock 16"s and i think i can get around 7-800)

I didn't swap my TPMS either. At first, the yellow light bothered me, but now I don't even notice it.
