Instructions on how to install aftermarket mirror covers...

1. Remove door panels.
1a. Instructions are here:
diy-how-to-remove-m45-and-m35-y50-inter ... 19940.html

Image

2. Remove window frame molding to expose (3) 10mm hex nuts.
2a. Disconnect this connectors:

Image

Image

2b. Once disconnected pull out from molding firmly -Some force necessary but they wont break:

Image

2c. Slightly slide the plastic molding out of the 2 blue sliders & pull it off door. Minimal force needed.

Image

3. Here are the (3) 10mm hex nuts exposed & ready to be unscrewed:
NOTE: Hold the mirror assembly with one hand while you unscrew (or have a 2nd hand hold it) since at this moment the bolts/nuts are the only thing holding the mirror assy in place & it may fall.

Your side marker bulb is out on the driver side. Dunno if you noticed.

You got any day pics of them installed? Or did I miss it? How hard was the install?

Ya, noticed it last night, it went out after my buddy & I installed them, I'll take all that apart again on monday... Installation is pretty easy ONCE YOU KNOW what you're doing. I tapped into the sidemarkers to run power to the mirror covers tho. There were some times that I was stuck but I knew it was going to be stupid once I figured it out (and it was very stupid, lol) for instance, I couldnt get the actual mirror out of the housing to loop the wire through.. there was a screw hidden by a sticker on the bottom side of the mirror housing, lol... I can do a quick write up, mostly by memory if you're planning on doing this yourself & then you can add to it if you find better ways to some steps. I can save anybody, who's going to do this, about 2 hours of time now that I know exactly what needs to be done.

Here's some pix of the end product...

Where did you get them Blanco? EBay?

My body owns his own shop and will paint them for me for free and I can do the install.

Also, one last request. Maybe a full car shot to see how it looks from far away? Thanks ahaha. This is one of those little useless things on cars that I absolutely DIG for some reason lol.

@Stephen, will do... & no the car's not in the bodyshop anymore & it's not getting painted, long story.

@Partysan, I paid $50 to get the covers & a trunk spoiler painted but Im kinda cool witht he owner so I dont know what the going rate should really be for this.

@Ilya, for sure... I'll take one tomorrow or monday... & it's not useless if it enhances the appearance of the car & at the same time makes you more visible to other drivers when turning... ; ) no?

I replaced a mirror myself about 5 months ago so you went as far as I've already figured out.

Ive had my mirrors for a few days now and Im hoping to install them soon. Any progress on that write up for the actual electrical wiring part. Even if you cant get to the pictures quite yet any advice would help. Thanks Blanco!

I'm really, really busy with the car lately man... & I need to do take everything apart & redo it again in order to b able to write it up... but if you want to go hastily at it, pop the mirror cover out, you will expose 4 screws that hold the actual mirror & motor in place & I thnk one on the bottom of the housing, unscrew them. Once you unscrew them, loop the wire from the new mirror covers through the hole where the OEM wiring is going. At this time pop the side markers out of the fenders... once it's out find a way (there's plenty of ways) to feed the new mirror cover wiring inside the fender & splice it into the side marker, test, pop it back in place, put everything together & voila!!!

so to clearify your "write up" for wiring my the mirror light to my sidemarkers: "feed the new wire to the side marker and splice it in" Well holy s***, ground breaking. Just the info ive been waiting for.

I dont get it... are you dogging me? lol... I said from the beginning I tapped into the sidemarkers... it's not environmental science u kno? anyways... if you dont want to "splice" you dont hv to bro, just tap into the actual turn signals & then you let us know how that works out with a write up. Or take it to the dealer... just taking the door panel & the mirror housing off alone should be about 2 hours of labor, 1 more to put together that's 3 hours... 2 hours to figure out where to tap for the signals & 2 extra hours just cuz it's an aftermarket part & then you're at 7 hours, 5 if they're good guys... what's the going rate at the stealership lately? Be my guest... lol.

Clearly im not taking it to the dealership, I said from the beginning that im doing it myself. Ive already replaced a mirror in the past so I know how to get the mirror apart/off, obviously i would run the new wire the same way the OEM wire is run through the door, and I said i was going to tap into the side marker. I was hoping you would be able to give some good details or tips but you just seem to repeat everything ive already said. I understand you are busy and will try to get to the detailed write up later so im just teasing you. But when someone asks about how to wire the mirror to the side markers and you tell them to run the wire to the marker and splice into it, its kinda like if someone asks how to replace a headlight and they are told to take out the old light and put in a new one.

Anyways, did your mirror come with a fuse type thing that needs wired in too? Mine has the 2 mirrors, 2 long wires to connect to your power source (one for each mirror) and then 2 black things with a tube fuse in it and then a red wire running out each side. How did that come into play?

Lol... I see what you're saying, then give me some time & I will take everything apart again (I have to anyways) & take pix & do a semi decent write up. Mirrors didnt come with a fuse, they only came with a shor red & black wire attached to the mirror cover & at the end of the short wires there's a black female or male connector in order to hook up the long wire to it... is that what you're referring to as a fuse. Anywho, I just wanted to get it done & pushed through with the install quickly so I might've missed the fuse, so let's say I'm like 80% certain there's no fuse...

Yeah the wire coming from the mirror is about 2-3 feet long and has a male connector on the end of the red and black wire. Then I have about 8 feet of black and red wire that has a female connector on one end and nothing on the other. But I also have 2 of these: The picture shows one closed and one opened up to expose the fuse or whatever it is. Any ideas how im supposed to incorporate this into the wiring? Should it be wired between the power from the sidemarker and the red from the long mirror wire?

Image

When i popped out my sidemarker i had a green and a black wire feeding into the back of it. Did you match up black with black and red with green? Isnt green usually ground? I didnt see any red wire or any other wires going to the side marker. Thanks!

I either misplaced those fuses or mine didnt come with it but I know for a fact I didnt mess with any fuses. The way fuses work is by placing them in between the two ends of a power cable... so if they're not already incorporated into the wiring & you want to install them, splice them into the red wire. I recommend you to put them inside the mirror housing so if they get blown you'll hv easy access to it. I dont remember the colors of the sidemarkers but "black" is universally ground... in any case, you have to test the turn signals before you put everything away so just crisscross them if one way's not working.

so for folks who want to do this, is it possible that you swap the LED from the mirror cover to a different color instead of using the amber one? i know it's preference and even if you don't want to swap, can you take some up close picture of the electrical parts?

thanks - oh btw, both of you suck at bickering at each other. it did entertained me for a few seconds though :D

That wasnt bickering, that's how Stephen & I get along... he's a class A smart a$$ so I hv to keep up with him, lol...

As far as taking the actual turn signal assembly apart, I dont think there's a conventional way... I thnk you'd hv to bake them & pop them open & then figure out IF you can change out the bulbs, I was wondering the same thing when I first got them but not to change the color but to replace them if they ever go out.

As far as electrical parts, there's really not much to it... the actual turn signal have two wires coming out the back of it (then you may or may not have a fuse to incorporate, lol) that you need to plug into a spot that'll get you signal for the turns. Very basic... did that answer your question?

I doubt you'd have to bake them..if I remember correctly the blinkers are glued and screwed into the mirror cover..in theory if you could find an led strip that fit into the mirror housing correctly you could switch it

yeah, the blinkers are glued and screwed into the mirror cover, but you then need to find a way to get into the actual blinker where the bulbs are. I think that is what Blanco is talking about when he mentioned baking them to get the clear blinker housing open. Ill take some pics in the next few days of the mirror covers for all to see bc they are not getting painted until next week now. I would def. say they were worth the $85 i paid, especially since ill get them painted for free and installed myself. Ill take some pics of the process when I do the install bc we all know Blanco wont get around to it, hes way to busy buying things and getting banned from the G35/37 forums! :chuckle:

Lmmfao... You saw my facebok post!?!?! lol... I was proving a point to a friend who was saying that the NICO guys were tools but I knew the G35driver guys were the toolest of them all & I dont know if you read the thread or not but some of those guys are really dumb as rocks, not all of them obviously but for the most part... seriously... I feel that they thnk they own a lamborghini or something & it's just a G for God's sake, lmmfao...

I dont mean that I AM busy, but the CAR is, lol... & yes, that's what I was referring to that you need to bake in order to open it & replace the actual bulbs... the blinkers are held by a small screwdriver & they were taken off in order to paint the cover.

I got mine on ebay for around $100 and they look great. You'll n eed to get them painted. Just search ebay under 'm45 mirror signal' and you should see them.
