Why do you need one? How do you know you need one? Just wanna waste money?I'm pretty sure 3" is big enough, since anything bigger than 3" piping on an FI engine will cause nasty lag and just look retarded.-Jeff

Hey, Jeff, I don't think that the stock trottle body bore is 76.2mm. And if you need to move a good volume of air through the intake manifold, the stock TB can be restrictive; as it does bottle-neck the system. The question to ask is, how much power are you trying to make? You don't need to worry about the bore of the TB causing lag, because it will not. Your piping does that job, and Jeff does make the point that if it is too large you will suffer in overall performance. The bore of the TB could add some responsiveness if it were made to match the inside pipe diameter, or simply given a few extra mm's of bore. Just a slightly larger bore makes a huge difference in total area. Simply consider it a matter of making the smoothest transition through the TB.John

Well, to use a larger TB you'd need a new intake plenum. The stock plenum doesn't have a lot of "meat" to hack at.

i'd measure the stock TB ID but i can't find a ruler....

yeah but it won't do any good if the manifold's inner diameter is still the same size as your old TB's inner diameter. you'd really need a new plenum to make it worth going to a larger throttle body.

True, and if he's gonna get a new plenum he might as well port match the intake and exhaust manifold to the head for max power gains. But I think he was more looking for ideas on a TB.

point taken. guess if he's asking for a larger TB he would probably have a sheet metal plenum or something. My real point is more along the lines that if he has a custom plenum (which would be the only reason/ way to effectively use a larger TB) then he can mount pretty much any TB onto it.

Then again, if he's asking who makes one and how much it costs... I'm skeptical about him having a custom plenum.

Looking at http://www.summitracing.com, TB's range from $200 to $500.

http://www.car-part.com lists Q45 throttle bodies from $100 to $235 (betting I could actually get one a lot cheaper from my supplier.... and I'm working on a custom intake manifold at the moment also..... HMMMMM ;) )

SOunds great. Check out magnusmotorsports.com for a really nice intake manifold. It is pretty much the nicest I have seen, it only weights 4lbs vs. 25lbs for stock and it is said to make comprabable gains to a FMIC.

Plus if you could get a gasket made like this one (http://www.hondata.com/heatshield.html) you would set for life.

I'll be interested in buying a manifold if you are actually making one... :)

well, the plan is to cut up the old runners, since the coolant passes through it and it would be a PITA to replicate that (not impossible, just more of a pain than I feel like dealing with since there's already an easy way out). From the old runners I'll have a new plenum welded on. Numerous people have already done it.

Yeah, that would be alot of work. Take some pics when you are finished, I'd like to see it.

Hondata heatshield seems to be just like a phenolic spacer or something. Are there any companies that make phenolic spacers for us?
