Aftermarket Temp Gauge

i have a mechanical auto-meter temp gauge and was wondering where is the most accurate place to place/drill in the sensor.its on a KA24DE

I would think a good place would be the original temp gauge sensor port that's next to the top radiator hose fitting; it would be the smaller sensor; the larger one is for the ECU.

The one problem you may run into is thread size. I think the sensor has a JIS PT 1/8 thread. BSPT 1/8 and JIS PT 1/8 have same thread spec. Look for a 1/8 BSPT to 1/8 NPT adapter to hook up most aftermarket sending units. 1/8" BSPT is very similar to 1/8" NPT, but the thread pitch is different (1/8" BSPT is 1/8"-28, 1/8" NPT is 1/8"-27). You can get BSPT adapters from McMaster-Carr ( http://www.mcmaster.com ).
