Ok, this has most likely been discussed before, but I couldn't find anything on it using the big red search button.

Is it feasible to install a sunroof on a 240 that doesn't have one? How much might such an endeavor set you back in the wallet? I am going to get a 240 this summer, hopefully with a sunroof, and I am wondering if I get one without a sunroof, would it be worthwhile to install one?

Thanks for your help.

Are you looking to have a "pop-up" style installed or are you going all out and having a factory style one put in that is power and slides back either in the roof or outside the roof? The pop-up ones are farily inexpensice and can be installed for around $200.00. Personally I do not like these becasue they tend to "creak" and make other noises when the car's body flexes like when going around turns or even over bumps. Now on my Altima, I have an aftermarket power sun/moon roof that looks like it came from the factory. It's glass with a sunshade, slides back in to the roof or lifts up in the back for ventialtion. A roof of this type will set you back $900.00-$1,700 dollars. Of couse the more you pay, the better the quality. I have seen many aftermarket roofs of this type last for many many years without leaks or problems. Like everythihg else, you get what you pay for and if I were me deciding on a sunroof, I would go this route and put up the extra money, just to know it is done well and correctly, and you will be far happier with it in the long run.

Just to add to what Tony said..Ive noticed that about 90% of aftermarket sunroofs installed end up leaking.Ive had 2 myself that leaked and I know of many others.;) Cheep usually means cheep!

Yeah, agreed, i was checking out a fastback s13 that had the worst, WORST aftermarket sunroof job ever. and supposedly it was done at the nissan dealer ( i doubt it). it was just a glass pop up, but it was way bigger than what a factory one would be, and the headliner was coming down around it. it looked like ****, the car had low miles, but was dirty as hell, and i'm glad i passed it up

if I get a sunroof (still very undecided) I am planning to make sure it is very high quality. I don't mind spending some extra money for quality.

IMO, sunroofs are overrated. I'd rather have a solid roof and less weight/less hassles/more headroom.

I put a pop-up in my 84 CRX. Nice install, but obviously aftermarket. Squeaked and creaked... Wound up making the whole thing a "targa roof" after the sunroof glass got stolen.

*Me at the junkyard: "Yes, I want to buy the ROOF from that wrecked CRX." "No, JUST the roof - I have a cutoff wheel and a compressor, just let me at it." :D

I'm still trying to deciede if I should install my OE power sunroof. If anyone wants it, email me

[email protected]

I have the headliner, bolts, roof( obviously) and spare dome light, and control buttons. Its the factory power roof, the only thing holding me back from installing it it the added weight, and the affects of rigidity on the cars chassis. But I smoke, so it might get installed in the spring.

Not all aftermarket sunroofs are bad. The original owner of my car had one installed early. I would have to dig up the receipt to tell you who did it, but it does not leak. It's nice in the summer to pop it out and say "HELLOOOOOOO" to tha Ladies. :-)
