My Infinity Reference subwoofer has been acting up lately. I start the car, and the woofer thuds a little, then the amp shuts off. It did it on the highway once (was working fine, then the amp shut off) so I put the car in neutral so I'd still be moving, shut the car off and turned it back on quick. The amp and woofer worked fine for the rest of the trip. If Im stopped and I do the same thing (the amp has shut off, so I neutral it and restart the car) it makes the same little thud sound and shuts off instantly - as of because Im not moving as fast, the battery has less of a charge...?

Im wondering if my alternator/battery are charging correctly. I haven't messed with amp wires lately, but its suddenly not wanting to stay on.

Your Thoughts?

Have your battery tested. There is a chance that the amp doesn't like the voltage it is seeing from the battery. If the battery is 4 years old or more it may be time to replace it. If the battery is newer and not maintaining the correct voltage, then I would have the alternator checked, too.

check all of your connections. It's possible that one of them has become loose (I'd start with the ground from your amp).

Good point. Check all of your connections at the battery posts, too.

Check the color of the lights on the amp. If the car is running and your battery light isn't on you shouldn't be having a voltage issue.

Haven't really had time to look into it, although I did have to move the woofer to fit some stuff in the trunk the other day. After I moved it and shifted wires around, it cuts out less than it did, so Im assuming its got something to do with the speaker wires from the amp to the wooder.

check ALL your connections especially coming out of the amp. you probably have a loose power cable connection.
