My 6 disc is broken, I understand its common. $400 at the dealer for a new one. Ive opted to replace the head unit with aftermarket. That said, does anyone know of any head unit that will work with the steering wheel controls? I have found that I will need a special wiring harness to hook into the Bose amps, I assume it will work fine. So my question is... is there any aftermarket stereo that works with the steering wheel controls?

Thank you in advance.

You can use almost any stereo with your steering wheel interface. If your radio uses an IR remote, which most do these days, you can get the SWI-X, which transmits IR commands to radio simulating the remote.

I used to have that, but I have a jack on the back of my Alpine for the steering wheel input, so I use the SWI-ALP..

You can find them here http://www.pac-audio.com/produ...rface

And it seems the SWI-ALP that I use has been replaced by the SWI-JACK which does more radios.

It's a bit of splicing into the factory controls, but it's quite easy to do.

Also, PAC have lots of other neat gadgets on their site.

Interesting, how do you like that deck? I'm planning on getting the new IVA-W505 since it does the album art display.

And it's weird seeing you on this site as well..

Hey ubpsanity, just noticed your from kitchener ,I like the deck but the menus can be cumbersome you have to take your eyes off the road.I use an alpine ere g180 half din eq that fits in the stock double din location with the deck.If I could figure out how to upload an image I could show all of my installation.

I've got the MRA-350 amp that does all the x-over and eq functions from the deck. Unfortunately it's in an upstairs closet right now. I really need to install it.

No need uploading an image, I'll just see it at the union meeting next week.

You don't have to look for a specific radio. You can buy a harness that allows you to hook up steering wheel controls to after market head unit. I am not aware of what year your vehicle is but most are compatible. You can go to http://www.pac-audio.com/swixp...g.asp and search for the type of head unit and your vehicle. Any more questions, feel free to ask.

I had my 6 disc crap out on me recently too and i relpaced it w/ this http://www.crutchfield.com/App...=5684 it looks great in and my system has never sounded better. Just make sure that you get th ebox to hook into the factory Bose amp so you can adjust how much of the radio's amp you use. and they do sell the steering wheel controls kit and i got that as well but have not got it fully working yet. It was a pain in the ***. I think it is just because it is a nissan the instructions said that nissans and harleys were the worst. But this radio has built in BlueTooth and an AUX out for your Ipod and a USB out which i love because you get a cheep $10 Flash drive load it up w/ like 500 songs plug it up and never miss your changer. hope this helps.

So Boro, that ebox allows you to keep the factory speakers?

Nevermind - put a call into crutchfield. They are great.

You can get the adapter to keep the factory amp / speakers for $40, and the adapter to use the steering wheel controls for $70.

I'm now thinking I may just go the (cheap) route of buying an iPod adapter to use with the factory stereo. If I had that, I wouldn't need the CD player to work. Then I'd just have to find a nice adapter for bluetooth.

I'd upgrade the deck if I were you. I was amazed on how much better the sound and radio reception was once I upgraded to a mid-line (~$300) Pioneer deck. I paid another couple hundred dollars for the install - parts and labor so you could, in theory, get a factory deck cheaper but the aftermarkets will always sound better and give you more functionality ie play MP3s, connect iPod etc.
