I have a 95 Q45 with the bose system, last year I installed a panasonic deck along with a JL Audio 12' W6 with a 250 watt JL amp along with a capacitor. Around a year ago my alternator died that had been in the car forever. I put in an aftermarket rebuilt alternator and that died 4 months later, I brought it to a mechanic but not Infiniti, they told me my alternator was shot and it was caused because my amplifier wire was drawing to much power. They put in another alternator and that died, it wasn't till I went to Infiniti that they told me that I needed a Nissan alternator, so I had that installed and I'm all good now, the question I have is that I want to hook up my amp and sub, but I don't want to fry another alternater and I was wondering what your thoughts are on this. I just find it hard to believe that only a 250 watt amp would fry an alternator, but at the same time ive had other issues with this car being extremely sensitive to aftermarket anything. Please help.

General consensus is non-OEM alt's won't properly support the Q's electrical system, and adding an amp would be even more detremental. Also, are you replcing the battery when you replace the alt? Tha alt rechrages the battery and if there's anything wrong with the battery you're gonna "over-work" the alt (OEM or not) real fast.

Usually, OEM electrical system is only made to support ~15% more then maximum current draw from all OEM electronics. So that doesn't give you much head room.

Dont install the capasiter just wire the amp. I dont know why you got a cap to begin with you only had 1 amp. Dont have your gain all the way up either you shouldnt need much power to push that sub. Also are you running Bose speakers? or aftermarket?

Capaciotrs can cause the elecrtical system to fail if it's faulty.

Red Top or Yellow Top?

When (along the timeline of alt replacements) was the battery installed?

Have you replaced the positive an ground leads to the battery?

It's the red top optima, and I haven't changed the grounds, the local infiniti dealership put in the latests nissan alt. and it's been working great, ive had no problems with the car, i just am afraid to hook up my sub and amp to the battery because i don't wanna spend another 800 dollars to get another alternator installed.

Alt should come with a warrantee, I realize they probably said an aftermarket amp will void, but I doubt they could make that arguement if it's not installed when you take it in??

Check the battery ground and test alt output at idle with lights on & off.
