You would want to pull the fuse and disconnect the battery. Also the airbag light would be on probably, so you'd want to pull the bulb or disconnect it.

But I would still just replace with an used OEM steering wheel.

Sounds like Nissan should replace it under warranty.

I know you said not to tell you this... but I'd go the OEM route too.

I know you don't want to hear it, but the main part of the Versa's safety is air bags, you are removing that. If it was a track car, with racing seats, 5-point harness, and roll bar its one thing, but a street driven Versa it is increasing the risk of injury.

what color and size are you getting, i always wanted the red one but i dont feel like giving up the airbag, winter can get dangerous around me, i hate mine now though too, its peeling at the top and looks all spongy and makes my hands sweat

lmao,, thats what mine looks like... and its happening on the sides now.... i was thinking of the red one too, or black so it doesnt get dirty that easy... but yes, the airbag is a big concern.... I just dont want to pay "nissan" for another one not only for my experience with nissan (including nissan north america), but because i already know the poor quality of it... I live in orlando, there's no dangerous winter here lol.... but there are lots of craz-dangerous drivers, specially all the tourists that dont know how to drive here... dont know what to do

You could always try to find a used SL leather wrapped steering wheel. I have one and still looks great.

hey, im considering what u guys said about getting teh one from a SL... i have to find one first though but my questions is, is it just replace them? i mean, is it just pull mine out and put the SL's one on? are they the exact same steering wheel but one has leather and the other doesnt??? im concerned about the airbag not working if do that which would make the investing in that steering wheel pointless

I'm sure everything is the same. The only difference would be the SL may have Steering wheel controls that you don't have on the S, you just wouldn't be able to hook those up. You probably could remove them and put the pieces from the S steering wheel on the SL, not sure on that. But I'm sure the hookup for the horn and airbag would be the same.

For finding a steering wheel, search http://car-part.com , even places far way should be willing to ship it to you.

Yea, I've been searching Orlando and Tampa area junk yards and haven't come up with anything. It could be they don't have it in their systems and if you call they could check.

I did find http://www.factorynissanparts....gid=0 which sells them new for $360 with or without mounted controls.

I don't know where in Orlando you live but when I lived there I always went to J&B Auto Parts off of 50 near Bithlo. They had a pretty good selection of cars in a nice layout. Prices were good too.

i took my vers on a road trip over the summer from chicago to orlando/ kissimi and i must say that everyone was driving preaty good to me, but then again im used to the bungholes overhere, but what really sucks about over there is your tolls

Yea, Orlando is the land of toll roads. Back in the day when Orlando wanted a better highway system the state wouldn't pay for it. So they went the Expressway Authority route with toll roads. Now that Orlando has grown so much and the highways are actually necessary I don't know why the state hasn't picked up the funding.

I just laugh every time I drive back to Orlando from Tampa on I-4. As soon as you pass 417 it becomes touristville and no one seems to know how to drive. Freakin' minivans crossing 4 lanes of traffic. I guess I just got used to it while I lived there but I notice it now.

Step 1:Contact Nissan North America and let them know. This is NOT acceptable.

Step 2: Let the dealer know you're going to take your warranty AND paid patronage to a dealer that treats it's customers like they actually want to stay in business.

Step 3: Find another dealer.

i did tell them... and they said that the only thing they can do is put a complaint to the dealer..... I did find another dealer that helped me (charging my insurance), "REED NISSAN".... I just reached the 30,000 miles last week.... im sure they are gonna say now that it's no longer in warranty.... . but i might try....

The warranty is 3 years or 36,000 miles. Whichever comes first. So you should be fine unless you go over 36.000.

Sometimes the dealer will be a little nicer as far as the warranty..but maybe not with something like this. On my S-10 I had an issue (one of many many many issues) where I was getting a loud rattle when the engine was under load..like accelerating. I was at 35,100 miles when I brought it to the dealer. They couldn't figure out what was going on with it because they couldn't reproduce it. I brought it back to them several times trying to get it to make the noise. The service manager knew I was about to be out of my warranty. He made a note in my file that I brought it in while under warranty but was having trouble reproducing it.

I took it back to them again at about 38,000 miles and finally got the noise to come out. They still fixed it like it was under warranty. That was the only good experience I've had with Chevy.

BTW, which Nissan dealership did you buy your V from in Orlando?
