I'm new to this site and it has already helped me out with those common problems with the J30. My current issue is the radio. It's been dead for a few months and finally I took it into the dealer and they said I need a new deck. I was wondering which aftermarket decks are compatible with the 93' with keeping the stock speakers and amps. I read something about needing an OEM adapter, is there anything else that I would need? Also, which aftermarket radio is preferred? Not looking for the absolute best, but something for a reasonable price and gets the sound back. Any help with this would be aprreciated. thanks

Assuming the J30 uses the same Bose "amp on speaker" set up, as most Nissan/Infiniti's, you'd be better off finding a take out unit on ebay (~$125), than buying a new HU and adapter. Unless, of course, you have a good bit of car audio knowledge.

I think I would prefer to go with a new deck, just because the whole radio system in this car isn't the most reliable (just wouldn't trust another Clarion from another J30). From other posts, I've concluded that only JVC and Sony are the only decks that are compatible with the stock J30 system. Is this correct? If so, are there certain types of JVC and Sony, or does any deck from this brand work?

I just found a FAI-3a Scosche adapter- same thing as the OEA4 at Walmart for $17. I haven't had a chance to hook it up, but it says for BOSE headunit replacement. With this, anything would work.

Yes, that's the one. Works fine. I use an $80 Wal*Mart deck that reads from SD cards, USB, and CDs. Check their online store.

So I've making some calls around Milwaukee and the Nissan dealership recommended this one radio store. I give them a call to find out what the best options are for my next radio. He said repairing the old Clarion would run somewhere around 210. Then I asked about an aftermarket install, just a basic 100$ deck or so, then he claimed this would still run around the same price with the installation fee and random parts. Any of you guys have any other suggestions? I brought up the OEM adapter, which I somewhat read about in here, with him and he didn't really explain it well or maybe didn't understand it. Does the OEM adapter allow you to hook up any aftermarket radio? Any other suggestions or comments would be nice. thanks

Basically yes. It's really easy to install too. I bought everything I needed to wire up a aftermarket radio into our 93 J30 from Walmart. It takes the Scosche FAI 3auniversal antenna adapter 74 and up Nissan wiring adapter. Then just basically follow diagrams. It's best to tin the ends of the wires that screw into the FAI-3A and make sure to set it to Factory amp setting. As for mounting- take out the OEM and use the mounts off the side to screw into the new one. You will need a pocket kit to fill the void under the radio if yours is not a double din. Hope that helps
