Hello All,

I had an AppRadio 3 installed in my 2004 I35 and the radio reception is awful. I read a lot online this happens with aftermarket installs. Is there any external amplifier or even external/extra antenna I can use to solve this problem? With all the threads I read, I didnt see a solution.

Howdy! Congrats on installing the radio yourself!
Some cars have an antenna that has a receiver amplifier for its antenna. It will tell this amp to turn on with the head unit. Similar to using a signal wire for your amplifier and subs.

In order to fix it, you'll have to attach the remote wire (usually blue or blue/white stripe) from the power antenna to the remote wire (coming from the head unit). Look for an unused wire from teh factory harness that is either blue or blue/white stripe.

This will tell your radio amp to turn on and you should have better radio signal.

I had this installed. I will ask my installer. But from the things I have read on the forums, even making sure the antenna is amplified isnt enough. I was wondering if maybe an aftermarket external amplified antenna might work better.

I had this issue also, the 2 pin connector seems to be the issue, all i did was plug it in reverse, i have no issues with reception now.

Giving power to the antenna seemed to help some for me. Here is what I did:
