I was wondering about this and have a few questions.Im really into aftermarket parts to increase performance and in the future to modify my car to make it track ready. (Daily driver as well)Thing is, i live in Canada.Every part i buy will be coming from the US or Japan. The reason im worried about dishing out all my beans for parts is that, there isnt as large of an aftermarket, market for the altima coupe in Canada, or should i say my area. So, if i spend 900$ on an exhaust, 230$ on an intake (already have) and 1000$+ on rims and such, ill probably get 1/4 of that money back when it comes time to sell.

The reason i may sell the car is because if i enjoy tuning /tracking more then anything, it would be wiser to purchase a car for that. The A/C is great but it doesnt have a market pushing it towards the track.

Meh, im on a rant. Im just not sure if i want to start throwing money into my car, only to sell it for a RWD performance car in the near future. Probably 5 years from now.

Is it worth it? 5 years down the line when this car has an exhaust, intake, various internal mods and such, will i deter potential buyers or will i just get the same as stock? If i part the parts, what are my chances of selling,m reclaiming at least 1/2? (Id have to sell to people in the states)

Anyways for those of you who took the time, thanks! Anyone else feel this way?

PS Im looking at the 370z, or if i win the lottery, the GTR.

Usually when you put after market stuff on a car it doesn't increase its resale unless the parts are freaking awesome and everything is done perfectly. It would most likely be the best choice to return to stock then sell off the parts you have (this means keeping ur OEM parts or trade for OEM + cash when you sell) and you wont see nearly as much money lost.

I worked for an after market/race prep company and our customers in Canada really got hit hard with import charges and stuff. I highly recommend finding one shop to deal with to help you out with importing the things you need and the longer you are with them, the more likely they are to hook you up on stuff when they see the money you are spending with them.

And this is only the first year out! I had a Subaru Baja Turbo and that was ridiculously hard to find parts for.. but as time went on companies started making parts for it. And I am positive the AC wont be nearly as hard to find parts for in the next year like sways/coilovers the normal suspension stuff along with more varieties of engine/exhaust goodies!

Wth? What about the Turbochargers.com turbokit, the possible Tanabe Pro FIVE Coilovers and Tanabe Electric Active Suspension, the Uprev Reflash of the ECU, the Eibach or H&R springs, the Stillen front splitter, the Stillen supercharger (?) (can't think of anything more lol...)

you know, if you do end up making it a track/show car, you could always get sponsored, and then buy a cheaper DD... just a thought...

This is only my personal opinion, so take it with a grain of salt.

The way I look at it, every time that you spend money on aftermarket parts for the car, or every time that you spend money on the car in general, you are not making a financially wise decision no matter what country you are in. Just like buying a new car, when the new car rolls out of the dealership, you have lost a lot of money due to depreciation.

What ever you spend on your car, it will be very difficult to get your money back.Is it worth it? it depends. For me, I mod the car for the pure enjoyment of modding it, it is worth every penny.

Hopefully, some years down the road, I will be making more money than now so I can buy a better car and keep modding it.

Yeah, ALWAYS try looking for sponsors... It will only cost you a little bit of your time and will save you a bunch of money.

I agree...everytime you add stuff to your car, it should be for your own enjoyment, and not for investment purposes. For me, I totally dig the throaty rumble of the exhaust, the mean looking rims, and the sleek lines of the car... just my 2 cents.

Plain and simple answer you will get ZERO that is nothing more for mods on your car when resold, unless some private buyer is an idiot.

Rule of thumb is if u demod the car...u can get back 50% of the value on most performance parts...comeing from a GTO modded GTO's are a ***** to sell, returning to stock was the best choice except for a few 10 second turbo cars..

As far as a strip car not a great idea with the coupe..Get a old Vette or F-body and save alot of cash..

Huh whats this for?

But after all of that, im still going to mod the car.

I guess you're right, even buying a new car is waste of money. So in that sense, i mine as well spend more money on it for pure enjoyment. Well, the decision is made. I think im about to spend 1g on an exhaust.. or maybe i should wait.. hmm.. or lowering springs.. ahh.. canada.. bah.
