Still loving my 1998 Q45 after 267,000+ miles & sixteen years! I just started having intermittent failures of three coilpacks, so it's time to replace them all. The dealer wants $135+ for EACH coilpack, but I found numerous vendors online offering a full set of eight non-OEM coils for anywhere from $69 to $119. One vendor offers his eight-pack for $85 with a lifetime warranty on the parts. I'm a bear about preventative maintenance, but I only plan to keep this car another 3-4 years and I no longer put lots of miles/year on it, so real long-term longevity of the parts will no longer be an issue. Does anyone have any real world experience with these cheap coils? If so, are there some specific vendors or brands that have a better record? Conversely, are there any vendors or brands to stay away from? Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

Looks like OEM part number is 224483H000, price from www.infinitipartsusa.com is $101 each.

I did a little bit of digging and it appears some of the Y33 guys are using these coils (below). It appears that Hitatchi makes coils for Nissan/Infiniti anyway (hitatchi makes a lot of other stuff for Nissan too like alternators, starters, etc). I'm a big proponent of OEM parts because when you get off-brand it's hit and miss with quality, many times it's great, many times it's utter garbage.

if you recently replaced the plugs and/or have never used dielectric grease on the lip of the rubber plug boot, and/or just want to try a cheap fix first.....replace the boots (keep your 16 yo coils).
if that doesn't work then i would endorse the OEM Hitachis like Wes suggests.
lot of posts here about the fgy33 and coilpax, including yours truly. I scored brand new nissan branded hitachi 224483h000 for about 67 each 2 years ago.

The off brand coils I used (like $140 on ebay for all 8) actually made the car runa terrible, I ended up getting the HITACHIs and there has been no problem since. (rock auto sells them for ~40 each)

1. Brand with a reputation for quality, and
2. Sold by a reputable supplier.

That's a winner.

HITACHI
To the OP
I just replaced all 8 with HITACHI and working fine - in fact changing plugs and coilpacks has resulted in immediate and improved throttle response.
The throttle body was cleaned and fuel rail as well.
I ordered them on eBay and pulled the trigger - after researching Denso and getting the same result as your original post and seeing this huge cost of the original Denso's, I tried the HITACHI and if you notice Hitachi is now considered OEM in many catalogs.

Good luck

H.

These worked fine and it's only been a week but like I said improvement and no mis-fire at stop lights - All better!
The price went up since I got mine from this seller - I paid about 12 dollars less
