Just purchased a 2011 G37 Sport and didn't get navigation. I want navigation so I was wondering how much for an aftermarket Navigation/stereo, or get the factory OEM navigation installed? Is there even an aftermarket navigation that will fit in my car since everything runs through the OEM stereo. Thanks.

Depends on how far you want to go with it. If you want an aftermarket touchscreen NAV on a permanent display, it will obviously be more expensive than say a garmin ;)

Cost depends on many factors. I would visit a few stereo shops to get an idea of the damage.

For the factory NAV option, again it is not cheap. Not 100% sure, but I believe you need more than just a "NAV unit". You probably need a new head deck stereo, NAV interface board, and a different wiring harness. The NAV uses a hard drive to store the data and I think they put in a smaller one for models without NAV. Plus, I think the hard buttons are different between the NAV and non-NAV cars.

Sorry for the bad news...but it is an expensive option for good reason.

Would just go with Garmin/TomTom or something. I rarely use GPS but have a TomTom and it works well either sitting in cubby hole or attached to windsheild up near rearview.

I vote for the Garmin.
My daughter took my Garmin and accidentally dropped if from a second story parking garage to the sidewalk below and it still works fine!!

Next, I got a TomTom when I purchased a set of DWS tires.....my son took it.

Next, I got a Garmin of MY OWN for Christmas!! :)
We all like the Garmins better than the TomTom, but I'm sure they make better versions that the free one I got.

Garmins are cheap and work well, I used them for years before getting a car with OEM nav and was very happy with their accuracy and simplicity. I wouldn't waste any time or money on some complicated retrofit if my car didn't come with nav.

My Garmin was so good that I actually didn't even want the nav in my G37 initially, but I got such a good deal on the car (end of year + factory and dealer incentives) that I pretty much paid the base price and got premium & nav for free so I wasn't gonna tell them to remove it. Now that I have it integrated into the car, I love it, and don't think I will buy another car without checking the nav option box.

+1

I love my Garmin nuvi 265.
Got a very good black friday deal from Amazon. Free shipping, no tax
They are cheap enough so if they want too much money for map updates in a year or too you just get a new one.

I would look into an Android phone rather than buy a dedicated Garmin, Tom-Tom, etc. Google Maps is a free app that will provide turn-by-turn navigation and provides traffic updates. It also will route around traffic delays with the latest update. The phones also allow for a large number of voice commands. Just make sure to use a car adapter when using the GPS as it will drain the battery quickly without one.

If you want to see what it costs to install factory NAV (from ebay) into a non-NAV car...well....it's easier and cheaper to simply trade yours in on one that has NAV :)

Otherwise, go with a Garmin.

I have the Navigon app for my iPhone and it really is great. I was a little hesitant about how it would work at first but so far it has been awesome. It even will announce the directions via the bluetooh through the car stereo speakers! It does kill your iphone battery though...Best to keep it plugged in.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I have downloaded a few navigation apps for my iphone, but seeing the cost of them...it may be better just to buy a dedicated navigation for a 100 bucks.
