Hi all, I'm new to this forum, and a future proud Murano owner.

My wife and I have settled on a '09 or newer (gen 2) Murano for our next car. She is a big fan of the dual panel moonroof, but because they only come in packages with a bunch of other options that we don't necessarily need, such as power liftgate, power-return seats, etc., and this tends to either price us out, or we "pay" in mileage. (I've found that a Murano with an OEM moonroof "costs" about 15k to 20k miles, minimum, for a given price point.)

One of the dealers we visited said he could throw-in an aftermarket moonroof for us. My question for you is, has anyone seen -- or does anyone know if it's even feasible -- to install 2 moonroofs in the Murano? I realize that in the OEM version, the rear panel does not open because the forward panel overlaps it when open. So, for an aftermarket version to work, the rear panel would have to be mounted further back, and it might have to be a pop-up or fixed style if there is not enough available roof length for it to retract as well.

I've seen the retratcable whole-roof cloth type, and while interesting, I live in Colorado where we get heavy snow in the winter, so that's not really an option for me. Plus, I assume that the reason the OEM version is a dual panel, and not a true "panoramic", is because there is a stiffening rib between the two. Definitely don't want to cut through that!

Boy, that is a tough one! Personally I never feel comfortable about aftermarket cutting in the body of a vehicle, but that is just me. I can't say I really have any experience with it. If it were me, I would find a good deal on a Murano with the Moonroof.....I realize that it has more features then what you need, but for what you will pay for a used one, it would really be worth the price difference. Just my thought. Otherwise if you are set on the aftermarket roof, find a reputable aftermarket installer in your area, and find out what they are comfortable with. Discuss their options and make a decision from there. GOOD LUCK!
