Alright, so we all know how absolutely depressing our aftermarket turbo manifold selection is. I took the initiative to contact a local manifold maker of the northwest to see what they could do for us. They said basically if we got 10 people to buy them, they will make them. The rough price would be $500 USD. That is for a toppppp quality manifold. How many would actually buy one? Here's a link to their site/ work:

No way, no how. There are not enough folks who want one in the first place and of those precious few of them with more than loose change and lint in their pockets. You would be lucky to get two people who would say they wanted one and could step up.

I guess every couple of years, this comes up, but no one bites. Nate, get your manifold made and work your project. Most folks here are content with the little turbochargers and have no use for the custom manifold you seek.

Can't hurt to ask, but the other mods are right. We're mostly a bunch of cheapasses around here.

I dont think the main reason is that we are a bunch of cheapasses, because most of us probably are.
I belive that most of us realise that the stock manifold does the job, and the ones that are more "serious" would get a proper one made, probably locally.
And then there are the ones who change the manifold because they want a shiny piece of metal under the hood, they probably choose the ebay ones.

Why do you think most guys chose this engine over the others? Correct in the fact that the CA18DET engine is cheaper than the average turbo Nissan motor. I had a lot of reasons for opting for the CA family engines, but cheap is definitely not on my list

Well, over here its the only alternative.
I must use a CA for my car to remain legal.
Its also makes my car more "sleeper".

FWD I'm sure was one of those (probably the first step in me becoming a CA nut myself)

What's the rule over there?

One of the reasons I chose the CA series engines to go in my sentras was because they were the easiest and smartest upgrade to install in the B12 chasis. The CA16DE was first and it gave the B13s a very hard time. Then came the CA18DE and my car was pretty bad-@$$ then. Next would be the CA18DET and then I did some SR20DET installs for friends (FWD & RWD) and the wars began. Then my friend with the 200sx with the bluebird SR20DET had oil pressure issues and needed my assistance. It was clear why I chose the CA and that was the fact that it was 10x easier to service that the SR or the KA. And my first custom manifold (which is my current one) has been used for over 10 years and still going. So back on topic, a custom manifold is the way to go.

Its really hard to get permission to use another engine, almost impossible.
Tuning is also "illegal", but if they cant prove it they cant punish you.

I didn't pick the CA18. The CA18 picked me. I was going to pick up a Silvia with an SR20 in 98', but I couldn't afford it. It's not that I preferred the SR20, though. At that time, being a Skyline guy, I was only aware of the L, the FJ and the RB. I had no idea what was under the hoods of 13 and up S cars. Later, my first wife bought the 180SX and it was the CA18 model. The little engine impressed me and I became loyal to it.

I too didn't not pick the ca because of the cheapness. I picked it because a buddy of mine had one and his was awesome despite the tuning issues he was having. It was fast even with the tuning issues on top of that I have been dealing with the single cam ca for years since I'm an s12 guy and the platforms are close to the same. I would love a custom manifold but I know I wouldn't have the money in time.

The single cam could be a heartbreaker. I knew a guy with a CA18ET S12, full exhaust, front mount, SR20 red top turbo and a Rebic that would piss SR20s off. He came out one night and the S13 guys laughed at him. One dude decided he would send the American with the 1.8 SOHC rustbucket packing. He got stomped. Next thing you know all the SRs want to play and that little one cam CA gave as good as it got.

yeah mine was nice too untill my ecu s*** itself lol. I was a running a evo 3 big 16g turbo with custom exhaust mani custom fuel rail with dsm 450's I was in the tuning stages with an safc when the ecu decided it no longer want to cooperate and kept putting itself in limp mode for no obvious reason. I still have my motor just waiting on an ecu and harnes or another turbo s12 so i can just swap my motor in.
