My original MAF died last Friday, and I mean died! Output voltage of 0.1V at idle, which throws not only the check engine light but also the TCS OFF and SLIP lights to really get my attention.
I went to Autozone and bought their replacement and it appeared to work just fine that evening and all of Saturday. However, on Sunday it threw the P0100 code again along with the TCS OFF and SLIP lights again. I figured that the computer just isn't used to the different calibration of this part versus the original, so I reset it and everything was reasonably ok but it was still driving irregularly where sometimes its fine and other times it throws codes and complains.
This evening, (it's Tuesday now), I went ahead and unhooked the battery for 30 minutes and that reset the error code (I checked it with my OBDII reader to make sure it had cleared everything), and so I figured that it would have cleared all the MAF calibration data as well. I had hoped this would get it to acclimate to the new MAF. It appears to be driving fine again, but if I bring it up to 1000RPM and then let go, it sometimes drops to where it almost stalls and the TCS OFF and SLIP light blink on momentarily. Its also throwing the P0100 code internally though its not lighting the CEL light yet.
Is there some kind of calibration procedure I should have done, or do you think I just got a bum MAF from Autozone? This wouldn't be the first time they sold me garbage electrical parts, and I now remember swearing that I would never buy electrical parts from them again! The last time, it was starter relays that seized up in the "ON" position causing me to have to rip the battery cable off before they burned up the starter on my 1987 Mustang GT.
Thanks in advance,Ed
