while i'm in the engine bay i considered cleaning it up with an aftermarket intake. jwt pop-charger to be specific. searched and there wasn't any g50 specific info. looking at the design of the stock intake there doesn't seem to be a great way to do it (shoe-horned engine and huge maf) and what could be done would probably look the same and be less effective. could be wrong though. enlighten me.

OEM CAI is the best for long and short term performance.

Avoid K&N and pop cahrger cone type filters at all costs. It will cost you 20 HP in the summer.

The oem system is designed to take advantage of the pressure build up with speed.

The 7" H2O restriction of the intake system, air box, and air filter is negated TOTALLY above 90 mph by the horn placement in front of condenser in the exact peak pressure spot.

The MAF is so large to minimize its internal restriction at 6900 rpm to a peak of 6.5-7.5 inches water column or ~ 0.25 psi.

The most overlooked problem is a chassis dyno doesn't have the air pressure build up with highway speed > 90 MPH so the 1.7% gain in never SEEN.

I changed to a cone filter and am thinking of switching back to original. I've noticed a drop in HP and increased pinging in engine. I'm switching back this weekend.Sound of cone is great and attracts alot of attention at high RPM but it's not worth it. For sound, I'll just remove the suitcase in the back.

Or get the NICO Mustang Exahust CD ROM!

The pinging you heard (hopefully it has been replaced so no further damage occurs!) is a result of the hot underhood air. We'll not consider the large chunks ingested that the cone filter media missed.

forgot to thank you guys for the info. looks like i'll just be shining (cleaning) up the stock intake.

i really have no intention of doing many performance mods to this one short of getting it running superb, maybe the nico ecu, and exhaust of some sort.

low and slow.

Low and slow, just pull four plugs and never repalce the shocks.

To really drive it and discover what a great touring car it is, resotore it to as new OEM. NICO ECU is the only cheap effective performance modification.

we've been through this enough times for you to know that i don't care 1 bit about a "great touring car". sure i want my car to run well, but as far as being a "drivers car". doesn't concern me at all...
