I read somewhere that the stock HU has a climate control PC board in it, and that makes it impossible to remove the factory HU. Is this true, or can the HU be swapped easily?

I dont know about the climate control and all, but after looking at the OEM Units on the G35's, I bet it would a while before they come out with an install kit for it...

Yeah, I spent a couple hours at the local Infiniti dealership on Saturday (I don't have a G35c myself). The cutout for the stock HU is not DIN size. I think I'm gonna have to order a spare trim panel and cut out a double DIN-size opening, so that I can mount a DIN-size HU and a DSP controller. This must be why I can't find anything about aftermarket HUs in Gs on the internet. Crutchfield doesn't have a listing, either.

There should be a new dash piece made to accept the controls and have a spot for a din or maybe even a double din stereo from Metra. They have done it in the past with vehicles like The New Beetle that require an entire dash kit, or even the Ford Taurus kit that needed to accept heating & a/c controls. I bet you that they will have one in the spring when a lot of new stuff comes out. Im going to contact Metra to find out. I know that there is already a kit for the 350 Z.

Metra doesn't have a listing for any Infiniti vehicles. I don't want to replace the big titanium-finish trim piece with anything else. I think the best route is to dremel my own factory trim piece. I might decide to mount a large LCD screen in there and mount a DVD player in the storage space above the glove box (where the nav player would go). The system's gonna be fully custom, anyway.

I think the dremel is one of the best inventions ever. Metra said that they plan on having a G35 Coupe kit this spring. I totally support the full customization thing. Good luck Micah!
