I thought it might be a good idea to get a thread going on Aftermarket guages and how to install them on RB swaps. Temp, oil, fuel, etc.

Basically I don't know the first thing about installing a Temp or Oil pressure sensor, so I would like to know what you guys have installed and how you did it.

I want to put an aftermarket temp gauge in my car, and realized I don't have a clue as to how that work. Do you just get an electric gauge and wire to the stock temp sender? Would you have to use a temp sendor from the KA or the one from the RB?

:help

The stock temp sensor will not work with an aftermarket gauge (unless by chance). You are going to need to change it out for whatever sensor comes in the kit. This has been the case in my old RB with an autometer and RBSpecialFin's with a Defi temp gauge.

Oil pressure can be done a couple of ways. I have a braided line for my turbo oil feed with a sensor port located in the middle, since it is critical to maintain adequate oil pressure to the turbo... I'd like to know it's getting what it needs. Hybrid is running his in place of the stock sensor on the block... and so is RBSpecialFin.

For the temp sensor, do the guages come with a universal sender that will fit the RB?

The autometer had to be more or less crossthreaded into the hole (doesn't leak though). It fit size wise but not in thread pitch. If I remember hearing correctly (wasn't there for this one), the defi required him to bore and tap the hole and use an adaptor that the sensor threaded into...

I don't have an aftermarket temp gauge on mine. I am using the KA sensor in place of the RB one, and hooking up the stock gauge.

I did some searching today and found that Autometer sales a metric fitting to use with there guages, so I may actually go that route for a temp gauge in the future.

For now I went ahead and picked up a KA sender today from Oreilly's to see if that makes my s13 cluster read correctly.
