Oil pressure, oil temperature, ATF temperature, and voltage guages would be at the top of my wish list.....now where to mount those four jewels of information without looking like a 1980's honda civic owning kid is the question.

Agreed. ATF temp and oil pressure are must-haves.

1) nothing to do with vip. maybe electronics...

2) i saw this a while ago and the shape of the dash naturally got the gears ticking, however i am not looking to modernize my project. could be cool in a less over-the-top version:

Ugh...I hate digital gauges. Digital speedos suck. GM learned that the hard way in the mid '90s. My dad's old first-gen Exploder had a digital speedo, too. If you accidentally knocked the kph/mph button you were in for momentary confusion. 120!!!!!?????

Sorry guys, I was more talking about the oe cluster. What can be done to it? Do they make glow needles? Does anyone sell a custom cluster? Or is the Q to boring to bother?

There are a few threads floating around with people who have used LED replacement lamps for color change or to brighten the cluster up. Some of them had spotting issues, though. Lots of good links to sources for LEDS or how to save cash and build your own. There's some info on aftermarket EL replacement lighting...someone used it but didn't like it and went back to stock.

This one should be particularly helpful:zerothread?id=424429

Personally, I'm a big fan of the crisp white of the Q's gauges...one of my favorite aesthetic things about the car. But there are lots of options if you want to change things.

Which suggests the question what needs to be done to it?

I am with MOD. I am not a fan of colored instrument illumination.

I quess different strokes for different folks. I see what you mean. The cluster is nice, just a bit boring compared to Lexus, Acura, etc.

one of the first things i noticed in my new (to me, 92) ls was how much nicer the cluster was.

i'm used to the nissan layout but i gotta figure out something as far as lighting up the cluster in my 90 goes. i'm not sure if it's aged and faded but the light is the real shortcoming imo. design is fine to me.

yes, design is nice. I like it just fine. My big issue is lighting. Thats why I went with led's. Glow needle's would be wild.

I've taken the whole cluster apart.Under the clear black plastic is a thin layer that lights up and under that is a chrome metal piece that they sell on Ebay as a upgrade.
