Aftermarket grills and the chrome hood strip

I've been looking at aftermarket grills - I really think a black grill would look great on my black M.

Anyone done this?

I found this pic and the grill looks good, but the chrome strip on the hood looks outta place with the black grill.

This one has a body colored hood strip - not sure how they did it? Painted?

I talked to my local aftermarket guy and he said painting chrome is a bad idea - that it would flake off over time and look bad.

Anyone painted any chrome before? Or know where I might get a non-chrome hood strip like the one in tis pic?
