I have a set of aftermarket gauges that I'd like to hook up in my truck to get a more accurate read on my trucks vital signs, but I can't find where the senders for them would hook up.

The first one is a Water Temp gauge. It has the probe already attached to the gauge and there is also a captured brass nut behind the probe head to tighten up to the engine. I'm sure these gauges were intended for a v8 or v6, but my tiny little 2.4 4 banger doesn't look like this thing will fit. I read in the haynes manual that the truck already has a digital (varying ground) sensor near the front corner of the head which would be near the water neck. If I disconnect the electrical sensor, will that cause a problem with the ecu or should I run this aftermarket gauge in tandem with that sensor?

The second gauge is the oil pressure gauge. The haynes manual was very vague about where the OP sending unit is, but it showed it near the rear of the block on the left side. I don't have the sending unit tube/fittings for this gauge. Are all aftermarket sending unit kits for OP the same? Again, where should I put this sending unit piece in at? Should I run this gauge in tandem with the factory sending unit, or is it ok to remove the OE one?

The last gauge is the ammeter. It goes between the alternator and the hot post for the battery, right? Any or all advice you can give me would be greatly appreciated. :dblthumb:

The OP sending unit is located on the oil filter housing. You can get a clear view of it if you remove the oil filter. It is a 27mm socket to remove I believe. The best sending unit to replace it with is one that has a spade terminal for the warning light. VDO gauges makes lots of sending units that will work for you, I have one installed on my 95. The cooling temp sender is located near the cooling system bleed screw. The engine will not run properly with that sensor removed. I suggest using some kind of metal tee to allow the original sensor remain in the system. As for Ammeters, I never use one, it seems most of those Autozone 3 gauge pods always have one, Ammeters are dangerous if not hooked up properly. I personally would skip that gauge in lieu of a voltmeter or vacuum gauge, those both contain valuable information about your trucks condition. Hope that helps!

These are Stuart Warner gauges, but I understand what you are talking about with the ammeter. I don't really see the need in it bc the biggest draw on my electrical system is my 2 viair compressors. I'm hoping to build a custom dash and run the OP, WT, a fuel gauge, and speedo. I just wanted to make sure that I'm not hurting more than I'm helping when I do this install.

Thanks for your input!
